I've been trying to understand these posts and think I sort of understand it , but just 1 question, do you have to have a S&S card for kids

Yes besides being an onboard credit card it is also a door key and ID for going ashore.

They will have a card, but you can remove charging privileges so it's just a room key & ID.

I usually notify my CC company that I'll be on a cruise so I don't run into any problems using the card so far away from home. I purposely don't have high limits on my cards, but I'd request a higher limit if I needed it just to cover the "holds"...can always reduce it once you get back.

Has nothing to do with the tips! Everything on board gets charged to the account souvineers, shore excursions, drinks, treats from the Cafe, video arcade. It doesn't matter WHO does the charging, the hold is averaged over the number of people in the party.

I know how the SS account works. I have traveled Carnival and other cruise lines. I am also a TA.

In my post, I said I dont know why they put a hold on a YOUNG child's account if the tips are prepaid. A 1 YEAR OLD is not going to go buy drinks, pictures, or anything else on the ship...
