CruiserBradFromKY Posted August 27, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 27, 2008 It has been about five years since we visited Grand Cayman. At that time, we tendered into the port. What we would like to know is: Will we find a number of people offering their services as a guide/driver for the day at the port? We have been to GC twice but we booked our excursions on the cruise ship and didn't pay any attention to what may have been offered at or near the port by independents. This time, we are not interested in the stingrays or swimming at the beaches. Just want to tour parts of the island. Any information will be appreciated. Wild Bill Posted August 27, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 27, 2008 You might want to look at this thread. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=825723 They mention taking a tour and it sounds like they got it right from the tender pier. I read your thread and I am also interested in the answers to it. KT

CruiserBradFromKY Posted August 27, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted August 27, 2008 Thanks WILD BILL and Cruisejunkie2. Looks like we won't have any trouble finding someone at the port to give us the tour we want.
D & D Posted August 27, 2008 #5 Share Posted August 27, 2008 yes there will be a plethora of independent tour guides and companies right there at the pier and less$$$ too How do you know who you can trust when getting them from the street? How do you know if what they charge is fair? Where do they take you and will they bring you back to the pier? Denise
Albums in the Attic Posted August 30, 2008 #6 Share Posted August 30, 2008 The last time we were in GC, we decided to take a tour of the island. It was fantastic. It was $20/person. They took us to all of the highlights; Seven Mile Beach (spent only 10-20 minutes or so there, enough for pictures), Hell, historic buildings, a Rum Cake factory, Turtle Farm, etc. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the island and it was EASILY the best $40 excursion we've ever been on. It was in a comfortable air conditioned van with appx 6 other people. The driver was incredibly polite and professional. We really enjoyed it. But I always recommend travel in groups with friends or fellow cruisers we meet on the CC Roll Call or on the ship! GC is a pretty safe island and I am sure you will find plenty of nice caring guides you can trust at the dock. It is exteremly rare that these tours go bad.
