twojays Posted August 29, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 29, 2008 Hi, We have just booked holiday for June 2009, which starts with 3 nights in Vancouver, followed by Alaskan Cruise on NCL Sun. We are 4 adults from the UK, who have never been to Vancouver before, and wonder if anyone could give us some help? We are booked into the Best Western Downtown Hotel, Drake Street. Does anyone know how far this is from the Airport, and whether there is a bus or train - or would we need to get a Taxi? Also, what sort of price would we expect to be paying for this journey? We will then need to get from the hotel to the port, for the start of our cruise. Any help would be appreciated.

Any help would be appreciated. From aiport to your hotel you are about 25/35 mins depending upon time of arrival. A cab would be an option if you can secure a van type cab otherwise the cabs in the city have for the most part been downsized and you are hard pressed to get 3 people in them with luggage. A van cab will run you about $30. Your other option will be a limo and that will run you about $10 more. You can also take the Airporter Shuttle at a cost of $13.75 pp or $22 round trip. I am all but certain that you will find that your hotel offers a free shuttle to the cruise terminal, I would contact them to confirm. You in a newish hotel just slightly south and east of the Granville entertainment district and it has a White Spot family restaurant for meals on the ground floor of the hotel. We have not heard anything but good reviews about the hotel. You can walk to Yaletown, Granville Is. Robson St. and many other sights in the downtown area. You will likely have many more questions as times gooes on so please come on back and there are number of posters here in Vancouver that will pleased to help you. www.limojetgold.com/ www.yvrairporter.com/
twojays Posted August 29, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted August 29, 2008 Thank you so much for such a speedy and helpful reply, and for your reassuring words about the hotel. You are right, I think I will have more questions, especially about Vancouver itself. We are really looking forward to this trip now!

There is also a city bus you could take, it's $3.75/ea, and you can get more info at http://translink.bc.ca/ There is a new subway under final stages of construction, but it won't be operating just yet (plans to opens Nov 2009) that will run straight from YVR airport to downtown (ending 1 block from the cruise terminal). There's an outside chance it might be open early, but probably not 5 months early. From your hotel to the Canada Place cruise terminal (at the north end of Howe Street) is approx 1km, or 10 city blocks. It's probably easiest on the day of the cruise to just grab 2 taxis to move 4 people.
Putterdude Posted August 30, 2008 #5 Share Posted August 30, 2008 As I suspected, your hotel does offer a complimentary shuttle service within the downtown area however I believe that you do need to book the the trip to the cruise teminal with them the night before. :)
twojays Posted September 1, 2008 Author #6 Share Posted September 1, 2008 Many thanks to Putterdude and Scottbee for your help. This information will certainly aid our transportation plans for this special trip. Any recommendations on things that we "Must See" whilst in Vancouver before we commence our cruise? scottbee Posted September 1, 2008 #7 Share Posted September 1, 2008 Many thanks to Putterdude and Scottbee for your help. This information will certainly aid our transportation plans for this special trip. Any recommendations on things that we "Must See" whilst in Vancouver before we commence our cruise? Wow, there's a lot to see in Vancouver, but most people are interested in visiting Stanley Park, Grouse Mountain and the Capilano Suspension bridge. Whale watching is also high on people's list. Are there specific kinds of things you like to do?
Putterdude Posted September 1, 2008 #8 Share Posted September 1, 2008 A lot of people like to take the hop off hop on trolley which gives you a real good look at most of the sights of Vancouver and permits you to get off at the ones you would care to spend more time at. On another day you may care to go over to the North Shore to take in the Capilano Suspension bridge and the Grouse Mtn Skyride. The North Shore excursion can be done by tour bus or by transit. If choose transit then a fun way to to do it is to go by Seabus to the Lonsdale Quay then transfer to the Capilano bus; you then can get on and off the bus at the Cleveland Dam, the Capilano fish hatchery, the Capilano Suspension bridge and Grouse Mtn by purchasing an all day transit pass for $9pp at a convenience store or at the Seabus or a Skytrain station. I am going to assume that your your 3rd day is the morning of your embarkation and that case you may care to spend some time at Granville Island, Gastown or perhaps Robson St. http://www.vancouvertrolley.com/index.php www.vancouvertours.com/ www.translink.bc.ca/ www.capbridge.com/ www.grousemountain.com/ http://www.greatervancouverparks.com/ClevelandDam01.html http://www.granvilleisland.com/en/node

gracecarmo Posted September 4, 2008 #11 Share Posted September 4, 2008 Putterdude: Does the Airporter run on a strict schedule, or does it wait to have the bus filled before going downtown?
Putterdude Posted September 5, 2008 #12 Share Posted September 5, 2008 Putterdude: Does the Airporter run on a strict schedule, or does it wait to have the bus filled before going downtown? To the very best of my knowledge they operate on a strict schedule departing the airport every 30 mins from 8:20 am until 9:45 pm from the international terminal and about 5 mons later from the domestic terminal.
