A Novice Question

Recommended Posts

Having cruised on HAL, Princess, etc., we've had a great time but are curious about being one couple out of 6-10 on a freighter.

I assume that the passengers on board are treated well but the priority of the Master is the cargo, not the codling of the passengers.

Some simplistic questions about the on board experience.

1. Is there cabin steward service or are passengers on their own?

2. Can one get food and/or drink throughout the day and night or is it available only at assigned times?

3. Can one bring aboard his own booze or is that restricted/prohibited?

4. Are there deck areas, pools and/or lounges available for daytime relaxing or is one restricted to his/her/their cabin?

5. When in port will any of the ship's staff assist in arranging for transportation for sightseeing or other activities.

6. Are port calls clearly set as to the arrive depart time so activities can be prearranged? Will a ship sail early if its cargo activities are completed early?

7. If a port call occurs in the middle of the night, will the loading/unloading start before first light so that we'll get a rude awakening as offloading/loading is undertaken?

8. Is internet and tv entertainment usually available?

I expect to have more questions, but we're intrigued with the idea of a relaxing and quiet sailing with a bunch of books that still need reading and visiting some unusual ports.

Thanks for any input you can provide.
