travelingran Posted September 11, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 11, 2008 any advise for seniors who want a relaxing time in hawaii. we did the western mediterrean cruise and though it was a wonderful trip of a lifetime, it was very exhausting and hot since we went in july. we walked miles and miles each day in order to see as much as we could in the short time at each port. we usually travel in july to celebrate our anniversary. i am not sure if there is a better time to visit hawaii. we want to experience the flavor of hawaii but are not interested in spending a lot of time on the beach scene or snorkling. we are looking for relaxing activities that will not be so tiring. as i read the boards here it seems that one could over extend themselves as we did in the mediterrean. we just want to relax and enjoy hawaii instead. coilover88 Posted September 11, 2008 #2 Share Posted September 11, 2008 We went last year and are going again. December both times. Last year we did mostly bus/van tours and this time we are going "adventure" with more physical activities. Although port intensive (at least on Pride of America) there are many many options from which you can tailor a relaxing yet involved cruise. The kid count was low because we went just before school vacations. The islands were so green from the winter rains. Rains which seemed to part for our week! kapoho2 Posted September 11, 2008 #3 Share Posted September 11, 2008 This is a tour I can highly recommend in Kauai. It is a delightful day riding in an air-conditioned van, watching movie clips and then visiting the site where the movie were made. At most sights there is very little walking involved. They serve a wonderful lunch on a beautiful beach. It is a great way to get to drive all over the beautiful island and have a lot of fun in the process. Bucky3 Posted September 17, 2008 #4 Share Posted September 17, 2008 We also have done the Movie Tour on Kauai. It was great. We usually rent a car on all the islands. With the exception of Honolulu and Waikiki, it is very easy to drive on the islands and then you can stop where and when you want. In Honolulu, you could take a morning tour to Pearl Harbor and then spend the afternoon in Waikiki visiting the International Market Place and enjoying lunch on the beachside patio restaurant at the Moana Hotel. That would be a great place to observe the action on Waikiki while relaxing on the tree shaded patio. Enjoy and Aloha!
zelker Posted September 20, 2008 #5 Share Posted September 20, 2008 Prime whale season is mid-February to end of March which happens to correspond to some beautiful weather although it can be rainy on the north shores of all islands during the winter. Of course you may encounter spring break depending on when you travel during that period as well but perhaps that's not an issue for you. HI can be as relaxing or as exhausting as you want it to be - either way, it is the most beautiful place on the planet. Aloha!
