What was your favorite dessert on the QM2?

Cruller

Recommended Posts

I am gearing up for my cruise and getting very excited. I just thought it would be fun to hear what people had to say about their favorite desserts and to know what tasted wonderful enough to justify the calorie content.

:)

It's good to know that portions are small enough that I won't feel too guilty.

I am going on the Nov. 21st sailing to the Caribbean and was wondering which desserts on the QM2 were amazing and not to be missed.

never mind desserts, try going to afternoon tea in the Queens Room/Lounge and try the cream sponge squares and not to be missed the Battenberg Cake. It is awesome. They don't make it every day but it isn.t to be missed

Bob, my Mom would love the marzipan cake.

Capnpugwash -- I had to look up Battenberg cake. I've never seen it in the states. Though, I do love the pink, green and yellow rainbow cookies made with marzipan and raspberry or apricot jam and sold in Italian bakeries here. http://www.ferraracafe.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=97

That Battenberg cake with all the pink looks like a cake for a princess -- I would have loved that as a child. I can't wait to try it.

Pepper, you are not the first person on this board I have seen raving about the fallen chocolate cake -- yum!

Cruller, the battenberg looks similar to the cookie, it is square in section (say 3 inch by 3 inch and the whole cake is about 1 foot long, normally to be served in half inch slices) and made up of 4 squares like a chess board, these are held together (traditionally) with apricot jam and then the whole cake is covered in a thin coat of apricot jam and then wrapped in a sheet of almond paste (marzipan)

The nougat glace is awesome beyond belief!

Another primo offering is the meringue shell filled with hazelnut buttercream.

Try the maple walnut ice cream too. On Cunard trips in the past, coconut ice cream has been offered, but it wasn't on the transatlantic we took in late Aug/early Sept. Most of the ice creams are excellent--sample them by ordering a small scoop to be served alongside the regular desserts.

There was also an incredible peach and apricot compote (?) -- one of the Canyon Ranch sugar-free lunch dessert offerings. If anyone remembers exactly what it is, please share the memory. It's not listed on any of the dinner menus that the waitstaff gave us at the end of the trip. I'd like to try to make it at home.

Important thing to note: The Chocolate Fallen Cake in Todd English is only on the menu in the evening. (see photos)

In the Britannia, I liked the Grand Marnier Souffle.

I'm with Toffeegirl, Chocolate Fallen Cake in Todd English is great. One warning though--don't eat all of your dinner--if you do, you won't be able to eat all of the cake. It very large and very rich!

Also in the Britannia is Spotted D***. See Smilebox below! Click onhref= line.
