Checking in with Princess in Whittier, Alaska (southbound cruise)

Has anyone sailed on a southbound Alaska cruise with Princess? Do you have to check in at the hospitality center in Anchorage, or can you go directly to the pier in Whittier? What if you want to book a pre-cruise day trip through Princess, such as a Prince William Sound tour? Would you need to leave for that Princess tour from Anchorage?

Just off the Island S/B last month. We took the train to the pier and checked in there.

Not sure about the tour question.

When we did that cruise there were a lot of people going on the Sightseeing Cruise.. they were all on the train that left Anchorage around 9:00-9:30 and were directed to a tour op rep right as they got off so assume they checked in after the tour? The "Denali" train didn't even arrive till at least 7:00pm so there's plenty of time to check in after the tour.
