Although I do not have chronic back pain, it does occasionally act up. I didn't have any problems with back pain on the Segway. I do have bad knees, and they would start to tighten up, but then I would realize it was just because I was tensing up. I would relax them and then they would feel fine. I had no muscle pain afterwards. This was the best tour we have ever done. Kadesh and Juliette run a wonderful operation.

We took the tour last month and just want to echo everyone's positive experiences. It was one of the best tours we have ever done. The three leaders for our group, Patrick, Sade and Yandeen, were terrific and we felt like we were best friends at the end of the tour. Everyone else on the tour thought so, too, as we all exchanged hugs before we left. Enjoy!

I did this tour with my 75 year old mother in November - we loved it & she's now making me check out any London based Segway tours.

 

She rates it just behind the Dolphin swim as the highlight of our 16 day cruise, particularly as she was the second oldest person they've had on tour (she's upset she's not holding the record).

 

Good safety briefing, small groups and a chance to get your bearings before heading off - we did the Conquerors of the Fort tour and there were lots to do, see, taste etc. Well organised, lovely staff and a very safe environment, I'd say safe and fund for kids, older people and anyone wanting a fun way of exploring, but plenty of time later on to explore / do other things on the island as well.

 

My mother has some walking issues & I'd recently badly sprained my foot (August) so was a little worried that it may have been too much - all managable and there were lots of rest breaks and it would have been easy to ask for a break if we needed it.

 

Highly reccomended...

We did the Segway Antigua tour in early December. Everyone there was a pleasure to deal with prior to the tour, during the tour, and after the tour. Patrick met us at the dock, arranged the transportation to the Segway store for the safety video and then on to Fort James Beach where the tour started. My husband and I really had a blast on this tour. I sort of toppled off once - my own fault. I was not hurt and Patrick took the time to instruct me how not to do that again. I cannot recommend this tour enough - it will be one of the highlights of your cruise. After we returned, they emailed us photos from the tour - these photos were much better than the ones I took! After the tour we had about forty-five minutes to have a drink on the beach (included in the tour) and then the taxi returned right on time to return us to the dock. I came away saying that I couldn't wait to do that again and that I wanted a segway.

We are looking at this excursion and have see that it is highly reccomended. My sister who is traveling with us, was in a car accident about 3 month ago and hurt her shoulders and does not have great balance. Do you think she would be able to do this tour?

I don't think I can answer for your sister since I don't know how bad her balance is. But you might want to email the company through their website and give them details of your sister's condition and get an opinion from them. Juliette is great and will be able to help you out. The area where the tour begins and ends is a very nice beachfront restaurant. If your sister cannot do the Segway, perhaps she would like to tag along and spend the time on the beach while you are on the Segway.

We took this tour on Dec 24. Seqway of Antigua was a great company to deal with. It was wonderful, there were five of us and we all loved it. We were 11 altogether on our tour and we had 3 tour chaporones with us at all times. They made sure we were all properly trained before we were allowed to drive them. We had a great time and to come home and get the pictures and video emailed to us was terrific.

 

It was a great experience for all of us.

Five of us from ages 17-50 totally enjoyed the Sunday only Ffryes Bay excursion Dec. 27th. The Ffryes Bay excursion began with an escort greeting us at the cruise port. After waiting a while for a no show we went their office to view a 5-minute video and then we were off to Ffryes Bay by taxi. Our family ended up being the only ones on this excurision and still had three extremely friendly and helpful professionals with us at all times. Patrick, Yandeen and Sade were personable and helfull beyond our expectations. The Segways are highest quality and in top rate condition. The excursion included a 20-30 minute training session and then we were off on the trails, from gravel and dirt paths to the beautiful beach. We explored Antigua's exotic and beautiful nature. Sade used a microphone system to explain everything. We finished the Segway portion with some free styling on a grassy area. We did opt for the refreshing lunch, while Yandeen told us about Antiguan life. The excursion concludes with 1 1/2 hours of relaxation on the beach before the cab ride back to the port. No falls, no scares --- one of our favorite and most memorable excursions yet. I recommend Segway of Antigua to anyone looking for adventure with a personal touch.

We will be in Antigua on 2/2 on the Serenade of the Seas. I really want to do this tour but had a question before booking. Last Thursday morning I sent an e-mail. No response. Sent another on Friday morning. It is now Tuesday and I still have not received a response.

 

This morning I tried to call but the phone just rang and rang. No answer or message. This will be the first time I have ever booked a non-ship sponsored tour, and I am getting a bit nervous about the lack of response from them, especially after all the positive things I have read.

Question -- I have chronic lower back pain... did you find your back hurt from driving these Segways? Did any of your muscles hurt afterwards?

My son has chronic back pain and has surgery, however he owns two of these and can ride them without it causing him pain.

I'm just back from a ten day cruise on the Ruby Princess. With all the snow we've had, boy do I wish I was back.

 

Anyway, my group of four took the Conquerors of the Fort tour. We range in age from 52-72 and we all had a blast. Needless to say, it's not the sights that are the attraction. The fort is pretty much a nothing. It's mastering the Segway and zipping along. It's a bit nerve wracking at first, but amazingly all of us picked it up quickly. They provided tastes of tamarind and sugar cane along the way with fruit and water at the fort. At the finish, there's your choice of beer or soft drink. It was a totally fun outing.

Thanks for posting princessmargaret. I am from PA also and am really ready for a break from the cold and snow!!!

 

I just (today, in fact) reserved the Antigua Segway tour for the first week of March and we are really looking forward to it. We did the Segways in San Juan last year and had a ball!

 

Couple of questions if you don't mind.....I noticed that you said you had the choice of beer or soft drink. Did you have to book the package with the lunch or are the beverages included in the regular tour?

 

Also, did you have the Segway people arrange for your transportation back and forth or arrange you own? Anything helpful you can post about the transportation would be appreciated!

I booked online using the cruise passenger special option. It adds $$5.75 to the $59 cost of the tour for each person. We did not sign up for the meal option, just the regular tour.

 

You will be greeted at the end of the pier by someone on a Segway (of course), then escorted to a taxi driver. He you walks you to the edge of the shopping area to get into the taxi. You are taken to the Segway store downtown for the safety video and simple practice. I forgot to mention the ice cold fruit drink at the store before. You then reboard the taxi and head off to the beach/restaurant. You arrange when you would like to be picked up by the taxi. We were "beached out" by then so we opted for an earlier time.

 

For all that transportation, $5.75 is a bargain compared other islands. Hope you have a blast! We did.

We just got off Celebrity Constellation and did the Segway tour in Antigua on 4 February. We booked it directly (they have no contracts with any cruise line) and paid $59 each plus $7.50 each for the round trip taxi. I won't repeat all the details and positive comments made by others but can verify that this is one high quality and fun tour.

 

We are 66 & 67 and had absolutely no problem learning to ride the Segway; after about 15 minutes all of our concerns just melted away. The technology is fantastic and very much worth experiencing if you have not done ridden one previously.

 

When our tour was finished 14 of the 16 person group wanted to stay at the beach for an hour or so but we wanted to go back to the ship. Juliette, the manager/partner of the firm, took us straight away in her car. She and our two guides were absolutely professional, very safety conscious and great fun to be around.

 

You can't beat this tour.

We just returned from a week long cruise featuring a stop in Antigua. Came across Segway of Antigua and Barbuda online based on it's #2 rating for attractions on Trip Advisor. It was an absolute blast (we never were on one before) and Yandeen, Sade and Jackson made the tour extra special with their instructions and attention on the Fort tour. This is a great alternative to the usual drive around an island thing. We did the Fort tour which takes place outside the city so there is little traffic. Easy to learn- I think they told us they had someone on a tour who was over 80! It was easy to reserve online.
