MAO Posted November 17, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 17, 2008 from the beaches? Can you kayak the distance (probably to far right?) where could you kayak to from the beaches and are kayaks readily available to rent? Anyone know how much they are? Thanks
bookbabe Posted November 17, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 17, 2008 Assuming you're talking about Seven Mile Beach, the closest beach to the cruise port, no, you can't kayak to Stingray City. It's on the other side of the island...
marci4tony Posted November 18, 2008 #3 Share Posted November 18, 2008 Much too far to kayak - but I did see some with wave runners out there?? THAT COULD BE A KICK!! It's about a 15 min boat ride from what I remember

bookbabe Posted November 19, 2008 #5 Share Posted November 19, 2008 It's about a 15 min boat ride from what I remember I think you are thinking of how far Stingray City is from the shore on the North Sound side of the island. If you take a look at the maps linked below, you can see Seven Mile Beach and the North Sound (where Stingray City is located). http://www.caymanlandinfo.ky/imagemapfiles/gcindex.htm To get to Stingray City from Seven Mile Beach via water, you have to go around the island on the West Bay side, and then go through the gap in the reef. :D You don't want to try to kayak that, and unless you know the local waters or have a guide driving, I wouldn't recommend trying it on your own by rental boat or even jetski. There's a lot of reefs, shallow sandbars and all sorts of other potential problems you could run into. Stick to the organized tours...it's easier and safer.
