Atm?

I would imagine it just adds a 3% surcharge to the withdrawl it takes from your bank account. For instance, if I ask it for $100 it gives me my cash and deducts $103 from my bank account.

It makes sense from a business point of view for whatever bank owns the ATM. That way if somebody wants a thousand bucks, they make $30 as opposed to a flat rate for any transaction ammount.

My insurance guy and his wife went on their first cruise this past spring and he used his debit card at the atm (I think it was in the casino) and when he got back into Galveston and turned on his cell phone there were messages on it from his bank alerting him that there had been over $1500 in suspicious charges on his card. NONE of them were charges he made.....fortunately his bank took care of them.

He probably used it in one of the ports.... no way just using an atm could cause that, unless a fellow pax stole his #

Sounds like someone used a hacked Debit machine.

Good to know the bank was on it, but I'd travel strictly on CC and cash... That way you'll at least avoid this kind of fiasco, especially if your bank isn't as inclined to customer service.

There are ATMs on the ship. The fee is usually 3% of the transaction plus whatever fee that your bank charges.

You will also find ATMs ashore. they are perfectly safe IF they are members of one of the well known networks that you see at home, but you need to find one that dispenses dollars and not pesos. The fees will be similar to those found on the ship.
