Rare Cruise Junky Posted November 27, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 27, 2008 Hi there, we've only just started looking at River Cruises and received an E:mail from Viking on their 2 for 1 sale. Is this normal for the spring? or do you think it's just with the current economy? The reason I'm asking is we're not looking at Spring 2009, but rather 2010. Rare steamboats Posted November 27, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 27, 2008 Cruise Junky, Viking is the only company (I know of) doing this 2 for 1 offers for European river cruises. Usually these offers are more or less short time and limited to certain sailing dates. Spring cruises do not sell very good (and that´s why prices are lower). It´s off-season and weather can cause problems (like spring floods). So when Viking is now offering 2 for 1s for spring 2009 this does only mean that the cruises didn´t sell very good and they want to fill up the boat. In general European river cruises do sell pretty quickly and if you want a certain cabin or a certain itinerary it´s a wise decision to book early. Many on this board have booked their cruise a year in advance! steamboats
catkoe1 Posted November 28, 2008 #3 Share Posted November 28, 2008 GREAT info on the floods. If someone was to go end of March are we worried that early of the flooding? Thanks.
orchestrapal Posted November 28, 2008 #4 Share Posted November 28, 2008 Cruise Junky: Friends always travel on Viking an ALWAYS get 2 for 1. If they don't offer it early they seem to offer it later or shortly before the cruise. Seems like not too many folks pay full fare.....:)

Rare boards Posted November 28, 2008 #6 Share Posted November 28, 2008 When you wait to book late (just before the cruise) are flights more difficult to arrange and more expensive. Booking early at least lets shop for the flights and also get the cabin you want, not what is left. Just an observation, not an argument.
