BUT why not just take vodka in its bottle wrapped in bubble wrap? Why go to the expense and trouble of a flask?

Mines 2 gallons and we put in mouthwash of course :p

Darn smugglers are filling up all the mouthwash bottles with vodka;)

hmmmmmmmmm lets see, I think my answer was a joke, I don't own a rum runner flask, and I pack my mouthwash in it's original bottle :D

bubble wrap and a large ziplock with the bottle wrapped in jeans in the MIDDLE of the suitcase actually works pretty well.

But truthfully I'm on vacation, I don't really take anything with me but a small bottle of Baileys for my coffee on the balcony. Otherwise I just buy my drinks on board, so much easier.

Cheers, Carole

Well, we use them because I am a worrier and these things are VERY durable...no need for bubble wrap, or ziplock bags...they won;t break of get punctured, plus they pack easier than the real bottles because they are flexible. We travel all the time so the costs was no big deal since we have already been used many times over...and the large 32 oz rum runner is not really a flask, it is just an easier way of transporting liquids

They really work. I used them when travelling to Rome prior to a CCL Med cruise this past September. They were great. I have 3 16oz flasks. I used 2 of the 3 before the cruise and did take a filled one on board. I transported Malibu Rum and vodka. Worked great!!!!

If you're worried about leakage pop them a large ziplock baggie. They work because there is no outline of a bottle if xrayed. they lie flat and sort of blend in. I took 3 32oz rum runners last cruise, one filled with Raspberry infused Vodka and the other two had Crown Royal.

They work...we take them every trip...many cruises and several land trips later-no problems...Saved us lots of money each time. we visit the liquor store once off the plane and fill them up the night before the cruise...voila! no leaks, no bottle outlines in xrays and once they are emptied, they are very easy to slip in the luggage pockets. Don't know how I manged without them

We purchased the multi-pack of Rum Runners. Three 32 oz and two smaller ones (8 or 16 oz ??). One had Jim Beam and the other had Malibu. The small one had Grenadine. All were put in Zip Lock bags and packed in the checked luggage. We carried on Orange/Pineapple juice and Cokes. No problems, no leaks. We still had a $350 S&S bill for five days, so , Carnival didn't lose much on our smuggling;).

Don't worry about getting caught. If by some small chance you do, all they will do in confiscate it.

There is a great thread on the saving money page. A fellow CC girl has tested them with wine. I will try and find it or you can search yourself. I take the large 32 oz with premixed margaritas and the smaller ones with absolute for hubby. Never had a problem with leakage or getting caught.

Not to mention the fact that from the date ordered to the date delivered was amazingly fast. Shocked would be an understatement. But, once I bought the rum runners, I forgot where I put them and we just ended up putting all of our alcohol in a suitcase. Would you like to know the contents of that suitcase? Can anyone say rolling bar?

One 5th of Vodka

One 5th of Rum

Two bottles of Bloody Mary Mix

Two bottles of Liebermilch wine

Twelve bottles of Pepsi

Twelve bottles of Sierra Mist

Twelve bottles of Diet Dr. Pepper

Twelve bottles of Diet Mt. Dew

Twelve bottles of Water

Then once we got on the ship, someone had sent us an Anniversary basket and fruit basket so we had another bottle of wine and a bottle of champagne.

Guess how much we brought home with us......

One 5th of Vodka

One 5th of Rum

One bottle of Bloody Mary Mix

Two bottles of Liebermilch wine

Six bottles of Pepsi

Four bottles of Sierra Mist

Four bottles of Diet Dr. Pepper

Four bottles of Diet Mt. Dew

Six bottles of Water

Bottle of champagne

Bottle of wine

Did I forget to mention that we really don't drink? But, we were on a cruise and you never know when you might take it up!!! Also bought DODs and husband bought Bloody Mary's. Spent more on the ship on alcohol than we ever expected.

Go Figure!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, back on subject..... yes, they work. Yes, they are worth it. Yes, I will bring them on my next cruise!!!!

i took all that on my last cruise. the hypnotiq had to go in two 32oz but everything else fit in a single 32oz packet each. did not put them in a ziplock, and had them wrapped in between towels and clothes. i carried the two bottles of wine on board. i came home with none of the alcohol and a $300 s&s bill for 7 days for just me, so i think i saved quite a bit of money on my last cruise. (i was with a group of friends, so i was alos a bar, i didn't drink all the alcohol by myself)

Not sure what size they are (good size smalled than a large listerine bottle though). Last cruise I think we took spiced rum and I got tired of that quick. This year vanilla rum & maybe some vodka is the plan. lol I really like the Cruzan rum flavors which cost like $20 here and on islands 6 or so..................

Thanks everybody for posting these experiences.

I am soon (hopefully) to be taking my first cruise. Frankly, I drink Crown Royal and I drink it like wine. The rules against taking liquor on board is one of the few reasons that I have not already taken my first cruise. I've learned a lot in this thread! Keep it coming!

The Rum Runners flasks pack easier than bottles, aren't (so far) detectable, lie nice and flat in a drawer in the cabin and can be filled with the drink of your choice.

If you wish to use them to transport wine rather than liquor, make sure there is as little air in the bags as possible to reduce oxidation of the wine.

As far as getting caught - there is no recorded example on any cruise line of anyone being denied boarding or thrown off a ship for attempting to bring on alcohol. The cruise line 'reserves the right' to do so - but it hasn't happened and I suspect it never will. If you throw the passenger off, you'll lose that persons' gratuity for the staff, no bar bill, no bingo or casino revenue etc etc. Not going to happen.

DH and I just returned today from a cruise and we took our Rum Runners again. Love them. :D We still bought plenty of DODs, champagne, martinis etc on the ship, but we like being able to mix our own drinks in our cabin before dinner etc. We mainly needed them for our cabin crawl that we set up through our roll-call. We had to provide drinks for about 25 people, so the RRs came in handy. We've flown with them (round trip) 3 times and never had a leak or issue. We highly recommend the Rum Runner flasks. :)

Rum runners??? Are they usable??? Look and judge for yourself...

Legend-Nov08034.jpg

We had Ameretto in one and Crown in the other. As much as DW packs, we had no other room for other glass bottles!!! LOL

Also, please remember that this photo has a mirror in the background, so it isn't quite as much as it initially looks.:D
