julianne74 Posted December 30, 2008 #451 Share Posted December 30, 2008 These cases always fascinate me for some reason. Sort of OT but whatever happened with the Carnival (?) cruise where the woman was lost at sea? I remember that they owned a cheesy sports bar maybe in Chicagoland..... they were older but recently married.... he was apparently out all night drinking a lot...? Down-Unders Posted December 30, 2008 #453 Share Posted December 30, 2008 CNN is reporting that a woman is missing on the NCL Pearl near Cancun. http://cnnwire.blogs.cnn.com/ I only hope the poor girl's husband and family never get to read this feeding frenzy, some of the comments have been appalling. Down-Unders Posted December 30, 2008 #454 Share Posted December 30, 2008 I don't think that's true. Didn't they catch the Spiderwoman on the Dawn falling from her balcony on film? Your comments about this poor soul are very very sad. Do you ever think that maybe the family reads these boards.
Down-Unders Posted December 30, 2008 #455 Share Posted December 30, 2008 or stupid accident like spider woman on the Dawn. Why don't you pray for her instead of calling her names, after all she has paid her dues.

cougar Posted December 30, 2008 #458 Share Posted December 30, 2008 I guess I agree somewhat with MoneyGuy, this site has become somewhat like gawking at an accident scene and there has been some disturbing comments which I'm sure were not meant in the content they were taken. Having cruised a couple of times I would be devastated to find out some harm had come to a fellow cruiser whether self-inflicted or not. I personally would not want to know, unless it was a case where someone had just witnessed someone going overboard. I would not be upset with the cruise line even if I heard it on CNN in my room first. Giving the family the benefit of the doubt for now and some anonymity to grieve without being gawked at. I guess I am a gawker because I read this site but I won't judge husband until FBI have finished with there findings, I think as humans we are curious by nature. beachchick Posted December 30, 2008 #459 Share Posted December 30, 2008 Oh I did-and I can understand your fear- this is what happened to me-you see my hubby has more energy than me-he wanted to explore some more-I returned to the ship around 4:30 pm-but when they called me at 6:30 pm asking if he was on on board- they TERRIFIED me, and as he had another 30- 45 minutes to board- I have no idea why they did-why did they say board by such a time and then decide to leave sooner? It was crazy-they asked if I knew where he was- and I told the person that I had returned to ship after our excursion to Peggy's Cove-but he had wanted to explore Halifax a little more. I was frantic for the next 10 -20 minutes until he returned. I even had my steward scared-I left to go down to the deck where we had boarded to see if I saw him returning-which was fruitless of course-when I returned to our stateroom- my steward told me that he had returned and had left again-as it turned out later for the lido-LOL! We had early dinner, had missed it, and hubby was going to grab a bite-not knowing I was worried about him-LOL! He assumed I had went to dinner without him-but I hadn't as I planned to eat with him. Yes, you definitely know how my sister and I felt. Isn't that frantic, near panic state "fun"? My sister and I needed a couple of extra "soothing" beverages to calm down from that adventure. beachchick

Mark_K Posted December 30, 2008 #461 Share Posted December 30, 2008 It'd be almost impossible to "fall" off the ship---unless you were trying to climb from balcony to balcony, foul play is the easiest and most likely explanation!I would guess that stupidity (often fueled by intoxication) and suicide are more common than foul play. Rare troyphoto Posted December 30, 2008 #462 Share Posted December 30, 2008 Please remember what a fall from a height of 60 to 80 feet can do. Eleventh floor balcony is going to be approx that height from the water. Water really isn't soft from that height. If you saw the Mythbusters Hammer Drop episode, falls from 100 feet tore the legs off Buster, the crash test dummy. If she was falling instead of diving, it's very possible that she would have lost consciousness. As James pointed out earlier, the most human way for her to pass would be a loss of consciousness and drown, rather than having a broken leg or two and dying of exposure. My prayers are with her family, and the officers investigating the tragedy.

M&MCruisin Posted December 30, 2008 #467 Share Posted December 30, 2008 Im glad to have read these posts. Even though I may not agree with all of them, it makes you think. Im always a little hesitant to think suicide and want to think foul play, but obviously suicide happens. For some reason it seems easier to suspect foul play than for someone to take their own life. It is truly sad. That being said, even though we have shared opinions or theories about what may have happened, does not in any way mean that we do not have sympathy for the family. All those that felt sorry for Casey Anthony are now regretting it. What I mean is that its ok to have opinioins or theories and it does not mean that we are bad people as many here like to portray. I think we should sweep off our own back porch first. About the NCL Announcement...maybe the family asked them NOT to as to respect their privacy. Who knows. jhk1206 Posted December 30, 2008 #468 Share Posted December 30, 2008 Ok - but here's the question I've got. The two folks (the Nestors) that were on the Today show - the couple from Mass (the former CT State Trooper and his wife). Are they CCers? I KNOW I know them from somewhere, and it's really, really bugging me!!! Thoughts and prayers to the missing woman and her family. I can't imagine... derf5585 Posted December 30, 2008 #469 Share Posted December 30, 2008 Commentary: Notice that there is no mention of what Ray Seitz does for a living. Did he work? He certainly looks like a scary guy. He could star in one of those Jason or Michael Myers movies with those dead eyes. He also abused his wife, and if he did not kill her, you have to wonder how much her decision to commit suicide was due to being in a crappy relationship? Bariatric surgery and weight loss did not change this poor woman's life. Whatever she was missing did not improve when she lost weight. We all need to deal with the hole in our souls (the need for God, etc.), and that is more important than losing a few pounds or going on a cruise! from http://ironman63.blogspot.com/2008/12/deadly-christmas-cruise.html
curiouscat Posted December 30, 2008 #470 Share Posted December 30, 2008 When you have a chemical imbalance in your brain ( bi polar disorder) nothing can fill the void... it's a sad and tricky illness. She was drinking and apparently not on her meds(or would be ineffective with alcohol use). Also, all those reports about their behavior would indicate a manic or hyomanic state... then when the alcohol and your mind stop.. you crash... Please, this is a serious and sad illness... :( CC

nurslis Posted December 30, 2008 #473 Share Posted December 30, 2008 I am so mad and irritated with the piece on the TODAY show. Just because that couple happened to have an encounter with the husband about the coins and the casino, they deserved to bad mouth him on live TV?? They didn't even know them!! JFontaine Posted December 30, 2008 #474 Share Posted December 30, 2008 What I find fascinating is that her family is so quick to call this a suicide, meaning they knew she was depressed, but they went from before 8 pm to almost dawn before reporting her missing. This is not the same thing as one partner retiring early while the other went to the casino, or one partner going to port while the other stayed back. This is getting ready for dinner, dinner, an after dinner activity and presumably getting ready for bed - all on a one-year anniversary trip (although not sure how romantic that could be with a mother in a small cabin). If she was so depressed - and apparently they knew she was drinking and not on her meds - they should have been more on top of her - and maybe alerting authorities sooner might have helped save her. What kind of family lets a sick and distressed loved one wander around a ship at night for nearly 12 hours alone?
soccermommy Posted December 30, 2008 #475 Share Posted December 30, 2008 I have to agree, some people are enjoying their "15 minutes"! But, the Today show also had clips from an upcoming CNBC special Peter King is doing on the Pearl. There were clips specifically about the Pearl's security system and the cameras used. The show is going to air sometime in March. Should be good. No one knows exactly what happened in that room, though it looks more and more like suicide. We'll never know what was going on with that poor woman, and her family will be left with the uncertainty and guilt forever if she did in deed commit suicide. I think most of us will agree that she and her family deserve our compassion and prayers.
