cozumel shopping tips

At Carnival's pier (Puerta Maya, I think) there are two leather stores. One has very high quality goods and the second has good stuff, just not great. At the higher end one, I got an alligator belt for $50 (they were asking $180 - crazy). But the belt is beautiful and something you probably couldn't find at home. In November, I am returning for the ostrich belt.

You are not going to find a real Coach purse in Cozumel. They are all fake. ALL of them. Real ones in the US vary greatly depending on the purse itself. A small fabric one might be $120, a large leather one upwards of $600. The only place you can find cheap ones are at the Coach Factory stores and occasionally at Macy's or the like.

Los Cinco Soles is a nice store. They have liquor, vanilla, Mexican silver and handicrafts. If you are walking, go left from the pier. Look for the large sign. You can't miss it. I got a loose Mexican fire opal at Romero and Rochet. I had it set into a ring and picked it up 1/2 hour later. I think I got a good deal. One tip, if you get a loose stone, have it set there. I bought a swiss topaz several cruises ago and thought I could have it set inexpensively when I got back home. The simple basket pendant setting was over $200. Plus, my local jeweler dropped the stone and chipped it. He replaced it with another topaz, but it just doesn't have the same feeling for me as the one I got on the ship. Have a great day in Cozumel!

Where is Romero & Rochet?

Where is the "Mexican" WalMart? How do you get there fron the pier? Thanks

There are two stores - Chedruai and Mega. Mega is the newest store.

If you dock at the downtown pier (Punta Langosta), both are to your right (south) and across the street from the pier. Easy walking distance.

If you dock at one of the two piers south of town (Puerta Maya or International) you will need a cab. Cabs are plentiful at the piers just outside the tourist villages.
