Jewel-Cigar Lounge?

Has anyone on a recent Jewel cruise noticed if doors have been installed on the cigar lounge and if it is open for smoking. I heard a while back that because it was an open area, that they were not using it for this purpose. My husband very much enjoyed the cigar lounge on previous NCL cruises.

I was on the Jewel in mid October. The cigar lounge was there -- but not open for smoking. A couple of groups of people were in there, but weren't smoking anything, just chatting. So as of October at least, it wasn't available.

I had enjoyed the cigar lounge on the Pearl on 07 and was looking forward to the one on the Jewell for our Trans Atlantic last year. Unfortunately, the "cigar lounge" on the Jewell was not open for smoking. You could still go in and sit, and they still sold cigars, you just couldn't smoke them. I inquired with the staff and they said that due to complaints from the adjoining bar area, a decision had been made to ban smoking in the "cigar lounge".

Why they can't add a door to the cigar lounge is beyond me.

My husband is a cigar smoker, and was disappointed that the Jewel cigar lounge wasn't really that. I asked about the door question... his response: "Given the size of that room, they'd asphixiate all of us!!" :p

The Jewell and Pearl had the same sized room. I think that they simply removed the doors on the Jewell. The Pearl had a very good ceiling exhaust system that worked great even with several of us in there puffing away......

The room has a very good ventilation system. But, without a door, smoke aroma still spills out into Bar City.

The room was designed without doors initially.

The Jewel has the same exhaust system as the Pearl.

The Jewel cigar bar DID have doors in the past; and a wonderful ventilation system as well. They removed the doors. The non-smoking "nannies" are taking care of us, whether we want them to or not.

Sorry the Jewel never had doors on the Cigar bar. It had a wonderful ventilation system but not good enough. I was on the first TA of the Jewel to the states and the singer Pamela Stanley walked off the ship and did not complete her contract having lost her voice singing just outside the door-less entry.

What kind of genuises design a cigar lounge without doors. The doors should be there to keep the cigar smoke in and the stupid comments of non-smokers out. The cigar lounge on the Dawn had doors and two heavy duty smoke eaters that kept the air in the lounge nice and clear.

I agree with you. We were on the first Caribbean sailing right after you brought her back to America. There never was a door.

I find it interesting that Pamela Stanley blamed the cigar smoke when she was surrounded by cigarette smokers when they could still smoke in Bar City.

At least when I was onboard the smoking area in Bar City was ~40 feet away' date=' The opening to the Cigar bar about 10 feet. It may well have been the combination of the two. It is far easier to notice the rich cigar smoke even if the problem was driven by cigarettes.

One the other hand Pamela spent months on the Dawn with cigarette smoking in Gatsby's and had no issues. I spoke with her onboard several times and her issue was the cigar smoke right or wrong. A Cigar bar with no door is like a submarine with screen doors

Some people really hate cigars.[/color']

We were on the Jewel in November of 2005 (first ever Caribbean sailing) & 2006. In 2005 I was still a smoker and remember sitting right next to the bandstand where the piano was placed. I don't remember where the "smoking" area was in 2006 because I had quit by then.

On a side not, last year on the Pearl I was walking through Bar City one evening and was amazed at the number of people occupying the whole area. 6 and that was counting 1 bartender 2 bar servers and 1 piano player (note: no one in the cigar lounge since they had Cigars under the Stars up at Bali Hai Bar & Grill). The casino on the other hand was full of smokers and some of them were even gambling.
