G'ma Posted February 4, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 4, 2009 Hi, We will be on Splendor next January. My sister will be joining us and she religiously goes to AA. Do any of you know if Carnival or specifically Splendor host AA meetings? Thanks! :) Yes, they have a meeting every day. Check the daily "Carnival Capers" newsletter that comes to your cabin every day. Look for the listing "Friends of Bill W"...that will give the time and the place. dlbaqua Posted February 4, 2009 #8 Share Posted February 4, 2009 just beware that sometimes the meetings are held in non-private locations for example, in previous years, on the Ecstasy, the meetings have been listed as being in the library, which is a very open space and thus it's difficult to identify who is there for a meeting w/out asking them directly and difficult to actually have a meeting in such a public space. And, the meetings aren't "hosted" no one from the cruiseline will be there, just whoever is on the ship that needs/wants a meeting so sometimes no one else will show. some ships set aside a conference room for meetings, some don't, some even have the meetings listed to meet in a bar! last summer in Alaska, on HAL, their was a group who met in the conference room before our AA meeting and we had a hard time getting them to leave when it was time for our meeting, they were taking pictures of each other for 30 minutes after the time they were supposed to leave oh and sometimes people show up, having no clue who Bill W. is, just looking for something fun to do ironically, before I got sober, I would look at cruise guides at the library (pre-internet) and wonder who Bill W. is and wonder a. how he had so many friends and b. how he could afford to cruise so much if your sister is aware of these things ahead of time, it will help her to be prepared in case things don't go perfectly, she can have a back up plan in place if no one else shows
iamgolden Posted February 4, 2009 #9 Share Posted February 4, 2009 also, i have found it best to show up to the first meeting scheduled, sometimes nobody goes after they meet each other at that first one, just my personal experience.
