A private transfer is expensive direct to Heathrow. The only viable public transport option is by train from Harwich into Central London (Liverpool Street). On many cruises a special cruise train is put on for your ship, otherwise there are hourly normal trains. The platform is adjacent to the cruise terminal. Makes sense to stay in Central London, perhaps around Paddington with its fast train service to Heathrow.
planeman Posted February 11, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted February 11, 2009 handfordr - Thanks for the info! might be able to spend the afternoon and evening in central London. Lord of the seas - Thank god you are not the lord of the land. I hope you are on our ship, as we plan on having a great time. Sounds like the Train might be a great way to see the British countryside. :D We will consider all options. Thanks everyone.
sddsddean Posted February 11, 2009 #5 Share Posted February 11, 2009 Just bear in mind that you are travelling on a Sunday. Eastern region is currently undergoing extensive refurbishment with engineering works usually on Sundays. This means the line gets shut, you transfer to a coach for a time, then re board a train further down the line. It means you will have to move your bags yourself. Now it might be that there are no works that weekend, but we can't check until about 8 weeks ahead. You will arrive at Liverpool Street station and on a Sunday you will probably be best to get a taxi to a hotel in London. According to where you end up you can either get the Heathrow Express from Paddington station to Heathrow (about £15) or the tube. The Piccadilly line serves all terminals at Heathrow and will currently cost about £4.80. Simon
mimicsr Posted February 18, 2009 #6 Share Posted February 18, 2009 Planeman: It sounds like we are on the same cruise. We are arriving on Vision of Seas on May 3rd to Harwich. We are taking the train from Harwich International into Liverpool Street Station for 53 pounds for 2 people. If they put on a special cruise train, so much the better. Otherwise, the trains run hourly, and we thought we could probably make the 8:48 or the 9:48. It is a 1-1/2 hour journey. If you are looking for an inexpensive hotel, we got the Holiday Inn Camden Lock for only $65.00 USD per night on Hotwire.com. It's pretty close to the Liverpool Street Station and seems to be very nice. If you want more info, you can email me at mimindave@bellsouth.net or respond on the roll call forum.
