[quote name='stephendedalus']I hope you don't generalize that all young people in their 20s are like that. :)

Of course not. Just as all people don't start drooling and staring into space at the age of 50 as McNichol implied. My point was that, in our case, when we've been unfortunate enough to come in contact with someone who is obnoxiously loud, intolerant, and rude, it's generally been someone under 40. It could be coincidence, but that is what we have observed over nine previous cruises. Just as it could be purely coincidence that every person McNichol has encountered who is over 50 drools, stares into space, and exists solely to irritate her. :)

Obnoxiouly loud is not limited to people under 40. You only say that because you haven't met me yet.

Seriously, it appears from threads above (not yours) that the only reason for tolerating seniors is for the wealth of knowledge they can impart. I am 62 and have no desire to impart any wealth of knowledge on a cruise. At dinner, I usually like to tell dirty jokes or talk about the ports we visited or previous cruises we have taken. I work out at the gym for 2 hours every day and it is very rare that I find anyone of any age who can handle the same weights that I do. I can afford to drop $200 or $300 every night in the Casino and not worry about it. The one thing I don't do that many 20 or 30 year olds do, is get obnoxiously drunk at the pool every day. I don't want anyone's understanding.

I'm with you, Giorgio! I'm 63 and play tennis every day of the week unless it's raining. On cruises, my wife and I usually close down the casino and/or the disco. Of course, we try to schedule our excursions for afternoons, so we can sleep until noon. The only advice I have to impart to the younguns is "Keep up with me if you can!" :)

Oh I don't know Mcnichol...you were the one who spouted age discrimination in the first place. YOu changing your mind now? :D

As far as older adults....I invited my father and his wife with us because we have a blast together. My dad is in his early 60s. Age doesn't mean a thing. It's all up to the individual as many have pointed out. (Unfortunately, we're all disappointed because his wife wasn't able to get away but we are now planning on finding a time when we can all cruise together next time around.)

[quote name='Leejnd4']So why aren't you in jail? :D

Yeah, let's just not call anybody anything derogatory. Thanks! :)

I agree with you completely. Actually, it's too bad that it even needed to be said as it should be common knowledge. :)

This will be our fourth Celebrity Cruise on Summit - yes we've had problems and they have always been dealt with quickly and courteously - nothing in this world is perfect - we come from England and are amazed at some of the criticisms we have heard - we think it is amazing value for money-

re poolside seats - yes the early bird catches the worm but aint that life! It is much cooler up on deck 11 and quieter.

re dining room - we had nothing bur excellent service never charged for extras - our waiter would insist on bringing us two of everything if we couldnt choose.

re shore excursions - always good - if not how bad the sun was shining the people were nice no problem

Come to the UK asnd you will really experience bad service!!!

This board has to be regarded like a newspaper... Good news is seldom reported... If it wasn't for people griping about one minor item or another, others would not have anyone to gripe about because their world is perfect... and few people would be posting....

People who have lived longer USUALLY (operative word) do know more than folks who are younger.

"it appears from threads above (not yours) that the only reason for tolerating seniors is for the wealth of knowledge they can impart"

I know part of my reply was regarding knowledge...I was NOT being derogatory......and I didn't make my statement in the aspect of "tolerating" anyone.

It was actually supposed to be a respectful comment...the intent was a compliment.

How to divide the young (maturity-challenged) from the mature:

YOU KNOW YOU'RE GETTING 'MARVELOUSLY MATURE' WHEN.............

1. You and your teeth don't sleep together.

2. Your try to straighten out the wrinkles in your socks and discover you aren't wearing any.

3. At the breakfast table you hear snap, crackle, pop and you're not eating cereal.

4. Your back goes out but you stay home.

5. When you wake up looking like your driver's license picture.

6. It takes two tries to get up from the couch.

7. When your idea of a night out is sitting on the patio.

8. When happy hour is a nap.

9. When you're on vacation and your energy runs out before your money does..

10. When you say something to your kids that your mother said to you and you always hated it.

11. When all you want for your birthday is to not be reminded of your age.

12. When you step off a curb and look down one more time to make sure the street is still there.

13. Your idea of weight lifting is standing up.

14. It takes longer to rest than it did to get tired.

15. Your memory is shorter and your complaining lasts longer.

16. Your address book has mostly names that start with Dr.

17. You sit in a rocking chair and can't get it going.

18. The pharmacist has become your new best friend.

19. Getting "lucky" means you found your car in the parking lot.

20. The twinkle in your eye is merely a reflection from the sun on your bifocals.

21. It takes twice as long - to look half as good.

22. Everything hurts, and what doesn't hurt - doesn't work.

23. You look for your glasses for half an hour and they were on your head the whole time.

24. You sink your teeth into a steak - and they stay there.

25. You give up all your bad habits and still don't feel good.

26. You have more patience, but it is actually that you just don't care anymore.

27. You finally get your head together and your body starts falling apart.

28. You wonder how you could be over the hill when you don't even remember being on top of it.

Once again these desserts we are talking about are off of the menus for the Cova Cafe. The sommolier will get after dinner drinks and specialty coffees from the Cova Cafe at the end of dinner. If you look at the card you will see there are some desserts that cost around $5.95. They are definitely desserts with liquors in them. They looked good. I did not ask if they would bring them into the dining room, but I don't see why they wouldn't. If people don't mind paying for them in the Cova Cafe, what's the difference? Just look on the card that they put in the middle of the table.
