international driver's license for Canary Islands

We would like to rent a car in Tenerife and/or Lanzarote, Canary Islands. Does anyone know if an international driver's license is needed. We are from USA. Also, is driving on Canary Islands on the right or left side?

Tenerife and the Canaries are part of Spain. Spain accepts the US license so you do not need an International Driving license which is really only a translation of your home country license anyway!

 

All Europe except the UK and Ireland drive on the right, like the US.
