margord Posted March 10, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 10, 2009 WIll I need different adapters for my electrical devices for London then the rest of Europe or are they all the same?
Moonglow Posted March 10, 2009 #2 Share Posted March 10, 2009 Unfornately Europe has 3 kinds of outlets, round pins for southern Europe, thick round pins for northern Europe, and 3 prong blades for Great Britian and Ireland. Make sure your electrical appliances are 110/220, otherwise you wil need a converter also. I don't know what you want to take but, my curling iron and hair dryer are dual voltage. Most hotels have a 110 outlet in the bathroom for electric razors. Also, our camera chargers are dual. I guess globalization helps in this instance. Happy travels! sddsddean Posted March 10, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 10, 2009 As said, our plugs in the UK are different to everyone elses (we like being different!!:D). This is what ours look like http://www.adrs.ltd.uk/extras/plug.jpg The main danger is that we run on 240V, so as Moonglow says double check your appliances are dual voltage otherwise, if you are lucky they will blow the fuse, or if you are unlucky, blow up the appliance!! margord Posted March 11, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted March 11, 2009 Thank you both. I do have the dual voltage curling iron and camera charger. So I am okay there. My only concern was the adapters. When you say there are three different kinds I now know I need one for Great Britian (London). I have one I used for France and Germany. Do I need something entirely different for Rome? We are cruising from London to Rome so I willb e on the ship the rest of the time. Marilee
skisteamboat Posted March 11, 2009 #5 Share Posted March 11, 2009 Here's a link for info on plugs around the world. http://www.kropla.com/electric2.htm You can buy a simple set at many stores, including Target. I keep a small bag with the adapters for traveling in Europe. Cheers
Moonglow Posted March 11, 2009 #6 Share Posted March 11, 2009 For Italy, you will need the small round pin adapter. The larger round pins are for Northern Europe. Happy traveling. Carol
newport dave Posted March 11, 2009 #7 Share Posted March 11, 2009 You should be able to buy a worldwide travel adaptor, that will allow you to use american plugs in UK, Europe, Africa & Asia. We've got one which allows us to use UK plugs all over the world. It cost about £5 and is just a bit smaller than the size of a PC mouse.
lisiamc Posted March 12, 2009 #8 Share Posted March 12, 2009 I've got one similar to this which allows me to plug any sort of plug into any sort of outlet. I like it because it's all one piece, there are not bits to lose or accidentally leave behind. It doesn't convert voltage, though. Lisa
