Does Taino Beach resort charge to use their facilities for the day? What time do the pools open? How far is it from the cruise ships?

We are only in freeport for half day 7-2, but would love to go to beach/pool area and go jet skiing.

Do we have enough time?

Hey Nancie -

My husband and I live in Spring and my son lives in San Marcos. We used to live in Austin, many years ago. We still have family and friends there. My sister's family lives out by Lakeway. My son's name is Travis and when he was little he called Lake Travis "Lake Me".

We requested early dining, but our PVP said that open dining should be available on the Conquest by May. If that's true, we will probably opt for that.

I'm hoping that more people sign up on the roll call and we can have a meet and greet.

Looking forward to meeting you!

We're planning our 20th anniversary trip. We had thought of taking the Carnival Glory out of Port Canavaral to the Eastern Caribbean THEN booking to remain on the ship as it takes the Western Caribbean. Basically two weeks of just enjoying the cruisin' life.

However, I've just looked at the little 'ferry' ships out of Ft. Lauderdale FL to Freeport, Bahamas and the all inclusive resorts there.

Does anyone have any insight / tips / personal experience on this?

If we opt for the ferry over to Freeport and an all-inclsive resort, we'd likely book for a saty of about 7 to 9 days on the island.

My husband does have health issues, he can walk however does use a mobility scooter do to heart conditons (Carnival has always been very good with allowing us to charger his scooter overnight in the pursers area) And we've been able to enjoy such ports of call as St Thoms (LOVE that place!!) St Maarten, Cozumel ands such .....

But since he can't snorkle or golf, what are other things to do in and around Freeport? How is the public transportation, if any? We could take cabs to various places and use his walker for short jaunts so long as we'd be able to find places where he could sit, when needed.

Any pointers will be greatly appreciated!

I'm sure they do... here is the website:

As for time... well the pools probably don't open til 9ish or 10ish. I really can't tell you anymore about.

You could ask here:

WOW, had no idea they were even thinking about open dining! What a great idea! Yes, I hope more people do sign up on roll call, not very many posts at all. My DH thinks it's the economy. We moved to Austin in 83 and just love it! DH grew up in Cotulla! Nancie

"He swims with the fish"

I >think< they're talking about Luca Brassia in the first Godfather movie. He was murdered and dumped in the river. They delivered Fish wrapped in Lucas' bullet proof vest to Sonny Corleone. Sonny didn't know what it meant, and it was explained Luca SLEEPS with the fishes.

Ok first... If you enjoy cruising do the 2 weeks b2b and have a great time with many ports and home right on the ship.

Now for GBI - We have taken the Discovery ferry several times. Nice trip, just make sure you pay for a room... well worth it... if for no other reason than you have a private bathroom. For a place to stay do Wyndham Viva Fortuna all-inclusive for 3-4 days and then Westin for a few days.

Viva is out of the way and has a wonderful beach, all you can eat and drink, many water sports, snorkeling nearby, disco at night, etc. It is not a top-notch AI but will do for a few days.

Westin is real nice and is rather expensive but does have a spa, real nice pools and even though there is no "adult area" the pool farthest from the Sheraton area is very rarely visited by children. Very near to the resort (across the street) is a shopping area with shops/bars/eateries(cheap than resort - even a subway)/marina. On the same side as the resort and between the Westin and Sheraton is the Isle of Capri Casino.

So do a few days relaxing at Viva and then do the shopping/casino nightlife for few days at Westin.

Good Luck

I can't hardly find anything to do there. Looking for a beach. Found the National park, but that is 1 hr drive from pier...Junkanoo which just looks like a drunk fest and Wyndham Fortuna day pass throught the ship is 92$pp. Any suggestions with a 3 yr old who loves the sand!!

Well I don't know exactly what your idea of a perfect beach would be since it truly depends on the person (i.e. I like a quiet beach and need nothing whereas my wife likes a beach with at least a few people and a bathroom and some folks want a beachside restaurant, water toys for rent, etc.)

I can tell you that I recently got back from Freeport and while I saw several beautiful beaches, one of my favorites just happened to be where I was staying -- Xanadu Beach.

This beach was very quiet, had calm water and good sand . . . you could always find free chairs to use and typically find some shade under the . . . well I don't really remember the name for them . . . thatched umbrella like things . . . although my wife and I usually would pull a few chairs over to the far side near the tree line for shade. As Cherith mentioned the beach was prettier at low tide with better sand then, but even at high tide there was plenty of sand and it was rather nice . . . and most important to me . . . never crowded (although it sounded like it may have been a bit busier on Sunday with some locals stopping by -- we never made it to the beach that afternoon.)

There is a small bar/hamburger stand opend during the day . . . nothing fancy, but clean and edible.

There were also bathrooms . . . usable, but not fancy . . . and a small playground nearby . . . again nothing fancy.

A couple negatives . . . other than the beach there really isn't anything else here. No shops if you're into shopping. No tours. No boat rentals or water toy rentals . . . basically this is a good beach if you're just looking to relax on a quiet beach and maybe do a little swimming or tanning.

Does anyone know how much a day pass is at the Wyndham Fortuna? I looked for it on Carnival's site and although it is listed as an excursion, the price is not listed and it says you have to book it on the ship. Any insight? Thanks!

I think that is around $92pp thru the ship. Because of the cost of a taxi if it is just 1 or 2 it's worth it. If you have a large group you may be better getting a cab and paying at Fortuna... I think it is $60pp at the gate.

It could cost as much as $20-25pp each way to go to Fortuna.
