Domican Republic stop

I've read some mixed reviews about getting off the boat in the DR. We have a whole day at sea after this port so we might want to disembark. Does anyone have any recommendations for a family with 12 & 15 yr old boys? Obviously, shopping is out. How is horseback riding or the water eco adventure? Any suggestions would be appreciated.:)

Since you are going on Celebrity, it appears from some previous posts that you may have the option of going to Catalina island. Some of the recent cruises have made this a stop and this adds options to your trip. Catalina Island is basically a private island off DR near Casa which allows you a good beach day. If you have never been to Casa, it is a nice three or four hour excursion to do once. We had shuttle buses which took us the the recreated villages which had a great view of the river area. Good for picture taking, maybe boring for the kids.
