Although we have the first seating, we are willing to have dinner at King's Court to be able to see the Statue of Liberty. Rotterdam Posted December 1, 2004 #5 Share Posted December 1, 2004 Everyone goes forward....I was on the aft near the pool(near Todd English)..as long as you are on the starboard side you'll have a great view of Miss Liberty. After sailing past her many many ties since the early 1970's she is still a thrill to see & a great symbol of our country.(she is my favorite statue). Shipping Out Posted December 1, 2004 #6 Share Posted December 1, 2004 The trick when sailing out of the New York harbor is to be able to get from port (left) to starboard (right) in a hurry. You will want to be on the port as you sail down the Hudson River to view the skyline, and lower Manhaten, and then you will have to scurry to starboard because you will be almost immediately upon the Statue of Liberty. If you can stand the wind and cold weather, position yourself on the 13/14 deck which is open. You will also have the rush of watching the QM2 go under the Verazzano Bridge. If the weather is really bad, you can stand in the front of deck 7 - outside but protected - you will have a 180 view. Then again, there's nothing wrong with sipping a martini in the Commodore Club on deck 9 forward, the windows are large and you can be warm and dry! The coldest part of the voyage BY FAR was NY Harbor! BRRRR! I went outside with our new British friends from our table to "see the Statue"... BRRR! Nasty! rkacruiser Posted December 1, 2004 #9 Share Posted December 1, 2004 Remaining in the Commodore Club to watch sailing out of the harbor is not an option as Shipping Out suggests. The window shades will be lowered to reduce light coming out the windows. The Bridge is a few decks above the Club and at night these shades must be lowered and kept that way in order for the light to not interfere with the view of the officers and sailors on the Bridge. Martini in the Commodore Club seems like a great idea! But based on rkacruiser's post this won't be an option. Seems like deck 11 is where we'll be. Thanks to all again. J Cruise Posted December 2, 2004 #12 Share Posted December 2, 2004 Even at night when the shades are drawn in the Commodore Club Lounge, the shades on the side window on each side of the room are generally left up as those windows don't reflect up to the Bridge. The starboard side of the room is the smoking section. When you see the statute approaching, you can easily and quickly get on the glass enclosed, "scenic" elevator the opens inside the Commodore Club and goes to the 11th Deck, next to the Observation Deck. We hope to sail out of New York later in the fall. We usually have the first seating (6:30), but don't want to miss a minute of the departure and commentary on decks. We are told that King's Court is not available as a dining option on the first night. Does any one know of dining options if we miss our first seating appointment? Of course, there is room service, but I would appreciate some information from those of you who have done this crossing recently. Thank you for your help.
