Walking Tour of Tallinn now in pdf format

Recommended Posts

Sent it to you today, enjoy!

I think we're all now helping each other with this walking tour and that's really good. :)

Hi Essexlass2, would you be kind enough to let me have a copy of the Tallinn Walking Tour PDF. Many thanks... mjpharrison at yahoo.co.uk

Hi

Lair Bear closed his website down about a year ago, but I used it for my walking tour of Tallinn and made this from wandering around. I didn't go everywhere he pointed out but this probably shows most of it. All the best, Tony

Video is nice. Really liked it.

But it neither follows Lair Bear itin nor Rick Steve's.

I prefer Rick Steve's itin. It is also easy to get hold off (rather than posting personal email address in public forum) but also more descriptive.

I would suggest two modifications to Rick Steve's walking tour.

a) Add a detour to see old stone tower behind Olev church

b) Add detour to Catherine Passage towards end of the tour

Here is the suggested itin without description for the two detours:

Start at Fat Margaret Tower (Estonia Ferry Memorial is just before that)

Walk along Pikk Street until Oleviste.

Detour A)

Make right on Oleviste to see Olev Church.

Make left on Lai street

Go past Republic of Estonia and make right on to Suurtuki (to see #4)

See old towers and backtrack to Laboratoorumi (to see #29)

backtrack to Suurtuki and backtrack to Lai.

Make right onto Lai.

Make left on to Vaimu to get back to Pikk

Do rest of Rick Steve's walk

Detour B)

At start of Viru street, take Vene to your left instead.

Go past Apteegi st on your left up to Telegraaf Hotel and take Kathrine Passage on your right (across from hotel)

At the end of passage, make right on to Muurivahe to get back to Viru Street.

(It is lot easier if you take 10 minute studying google map)

If anyone is interested. I have downloaded an audio tour, which at €3.49 (can pay in $) http://www.audioguide.ee/en/downloads/

There is a 2 page pdf. 1= Map (numbered) 2= numbered photos. There are 17 X .mp3 audio files that relate to each place and an introduction. I have only checked 2 files but it seems ok. You can load it on your phone, tablet, ipod or other mp3 compatible device.

I'm just back from a cruise and would say Tallinn was the most enjoyable and easy to do port overall. I used the PDF I made from some online JPG copies of the original Lair Bear PDF, meaning the map didn't have the resolution I needed to exactly follow the tour. It didn't matter because the whole town is just so easy to explore on your own. Don't feel like you have to do Lair Bear's tour or the one by Rick Steves. But please do feel like you don't need to be in the middle of fifty sticker-wearing cattle to experience this city! Skip any ship excursions and just wander around.
