Travelalot2 Posted May 2, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 2, 2004 I would like to hear from those who have sailed on both the Voyager class and the Radiance class ships. Did you miss having the promenade area on the Radiance class ship? Would also like to hear other comparisons. We have heard the Radiance class ships are a little nicer, but not as big? The pool area also looks much smaller on the Radiance ships. Thanks.
flamingosun Posted May 2, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 2, 2004 WE were on the Mariner in Dec and the Radiance in April. Personally, I didn't miss the 'Royal Promenade' for a minute. superjerryw Posted May 2, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 2, 2004 We didn't miss the Promenade at all. The Radiance class ships are definitely nicer and seem to be more luxurious. Although smaller than the Voyager class ships they are still huge ships. Donuts, is there anything they can't do....
CAPinBoynton Posted May 2, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 2, 2004 We sailed on the Brilliance last June and the Navigator in November. I really enjoyed the Promenade, but I still prefer the Brilliance. It is a more elegant class. The glass everywhere just gives it a beautiful overall look. We liked it so much that we will be sailing on the Jewel of the Seas in 50 days. PH8 Posted May 2, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 2, 2004 I have been on both classes and yes,I did miss the Promenade and you are right...the pool area is much smaller on the Radiance class ships.......but those are the only negatives I found with them.........the Radiance class is a very pretty class of ships.. Diane&4girls Posted May 2, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 2, 2004 I Royally missed the Promenade. We made it, though! I probably wouldn't book a 7-day on a Radiance class. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION!!!!!!!! jenjes3 Posted May 3, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 3, 2004 Hi.. we have been on both types of ships. We have sailed the Voyager and Explorer and most recently the Serenade of the Seas. We love both types of ships. The Serenade is classy.. elegant.. Those glass elevators were a treat! Both I do love the promenade also. The ice skating show.. movie theaters.. a lot of things.. We are currently booked for the Mariner of the Seas for January 2, 2005. Either one.. you will love them both! Carver32 Posted May 3, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 3, 2004 We have been on the Radiance 2 years ago and the Adventure and the Voyager since. We much prefer the Radiance class(more elegant) and have booked the Jewel for next January. We also prefer the Seaview to J.Rockets. BK
Family of 14 Posted May 3, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 3, 2004 What! No movie theater on the Serenade? With an 11 day booked, we thought we would be able to take in a movie or two. As for not having a promenade, it should be just like cruising on the other class ship before the Voyager class came along. It was just something we walked through to get somehwere else, so I don't think I will miss it. We don't shop that much on the ship and didn't use the bars or cafe in that area. The Captain's "Welcome" party was nice however. <MARQUEE>Are you sailing on the Mariner 7/18/04?...Click here! or HERE! </MARQUEE> Disney Wonder 3/2000 ~ Disney Magic 9/2000 ~ RCI Vision 2/2001 ~ Carnival Victory 12/2001 ~ Celebrity Millennium 3/2003 ~ RCI Adventure OTS 9/2003 ~ RCI Mariner OTS 7/18/2004 ~ RCI Serenade OTS 9/26/2004
robinhoods Posted May 3, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 3, 2004 We found that the Radiance class ship (without the Royal Promenade) promotes a much more social environment. People tend to congregate in the Lobby Bar and Schooner bar. And yes there is a movie theater. We will choose Radiance over Voyager class whenever possible in the future. Sailfish Posted May 3, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 3, 2004 I didn't spend much time on the Promenade while on the Navigator, but I did enjoy all the sports activities, including volleyball, basket ball, inline skating, miniature golf and an excellent fitness program and spa. If you're a more active adult or you are traveling with teens, the Voyager class of ships have more activities than any other ship out there. Rala Posted May 3, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 3, 2004 Family of 14, They will most likely show movies in the regular nightly show theater in the afternoon, but maybe not every day. To the original question--I gues it depends how much you love the Promenade. I thought it was nice, but we prefer the open glass Centrum of the Vision Class (haven't done Radiance class yet until Aug.) I thought the Promenade was just kind of a mall at sea. We did enjoy our cruise, though. As you can see from the responses so far, it is a personal thing!

Bonnie Voyager Posted May 3, 2004 #14 Share Posted May 3, 2004 Hubby and I were just recently discussing this very issue....while sitting on the Royal Promenade of Explorer of the Seas! It was our second trip on a Voyager-class ship and we realized just how much we enjoy the Royal Promenade. We were deciding which RCCL ship to book for Easter 2006 (I already have another Voyager-class ship booked for later this Summer and we booked Adventure for 2006). Anyway, Hubby and I absolutely LOVE Voyager-class ships and we decided that the main thing we love about them (in addition to all the great activities available) is the Royal Promenade. We spend many hours in the Promenade! We love to stroll through it many times throughout the day. We stop, grab an ice cream cone, sit at one of the many tables and watch life happening in front of us. We love the entertainment in the promenade. We love browsing in the shops. We love the endless supply of cookies at Cafe Promenade. We love to people watch. We love to just sit and chat with each other or with new friends who we meet in the Promenade. We decided that we would definitely miss having the promenade. We still book cruises on non-Voyager-class ships, but are always looking forward to the next trip that includes a Royal Promenade! All other ships just feel like they come up a little short for us. Don't get me wrong, any cruise is a great cruise! I love all the ships I sail on, but for me the ultimate ship is any ship with a Royal Promenade! I can't wait to find out what the new Ultra-Voyager is like! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an "Ultra" Royal Promenade! Bonnie Voyager...a.k.a. Family of 14 Posted May 3, 2004 #16 Share Posted May 3, 2004 Thank you for the information on the movie theaters. With 5 sea days, we will need it. A Royal Promenade would probably be nice as well, but not available on the Serenade. Bonnie - I can see where I would enjoy the Promenade if there was nothing else to do, but we were too busy doing on the AOS to spend much time there.

TonyaJune Posted May 4, 2004 #19 Share Posted May 4, 2004 Yes, I must admit I did miss the promenade, but loved everything else about the Radiance class ships. ts Posted May 4, 2004 #21 Share Posted May 4, 2004 Have done the Voyager 3 times and the Mariner once and the Radiance 3 times. Would choose the Radiance class ships over the others any day! CAPinBoynton Posted May 5, 2004 #22 Share Posted May 5, 2004 Bonnie, I loved your discription and agree with you whole heartedly about people watching. However, in looking over your list of voyages, am I correct in that you have not yet been on a Radiance class? When you do go on one, I think you'll enjoy people watching in the Atrium. As everyone else has said, the Radiance class has a different "feel". I do love the promenade on the Voyager class, but I prefer the elegance of the Radiance class. Of course it all boils down your motto, “Enjoy whatever cruise you choose....just be sure and choose to cruiseâ€. Ocean Boy Posted May 5, 2004 #23 Share Posted May 5, 2004 We have been on Explorer and Mariner. We have wanted to try a Radiance class ship but have not for all the reasons that Bonnie Voyager listed. We just really love sitting out in front of the Wig and Gavel in the evening and taking in the sights. We might really like the Radiance class ships but I'm a little nervous about giving up the Prominade.
Bonnie Voyager Posted May 5, 2004 #24 Share Posted May 5, 2004 There is no question that I would love the Radiance-class ship and will eventually squeeze one into my cruise agenda. The original question was "will I miss the voyager-class promenade if I sail on the Radiance Class ship" and in my opinion, I WOULD miss it. It doesn't mean I would not enjoy the Radiance-class ship though. But for me the promenade is just such an added feature (beyond just people watching) with the Krooze Komics, parades, shops, festivities, and all the other entertainment that pops up on the Promenade. It's the heart of the ship. It's great for a Family cruise. When I'm on a non-voyager-class ship.....I miss it! I do enjoy sitting in a lovely atrium and watching what goes on, but no other ship has as much going on in the atrium as a Voyager-class ship has in the promenade. I am looking forward to experiencing a beautiful, Radiance-class ship eventually, probably with just Hubby and I, but for now I am enjoying my Royal Promenade with my Hubby and Son! Royal Caribbean is great though! They offer something for everyone! Big ships, little ships, elegant ships, casual ships! I intend to try them all eventually! Bonnie Voyager...a.k.a.
