Everytime I see that you have posted a thread I cannot wait to open it up and see your pictures! I have not been to Antigua .....yet, but when I am there in June I will try to take at least ONE picture and hope it is HALF as good as yours.:D

Thanks for your kind words...

You're making me blush :o LOL!

I use multi-hundred-dollar professional grade lenses on a Nikon capable of switching lenses

and that's how I come up with these shots you like.

It helps too to have been a pro photographer 'in a past life'

not to mention today's use of Photoshop to crop out stuff I didn't see in the viewfinder..

to make things visually perfect, correct the color, etc.

It's all smoke and mirrors, isn't it.. :D

This may not be Antigua, but it's a cool shot I hope you'll like anyway.

More Antigua to come but I shot 950 frames in three days

and it takes awhile to process that many, so keep checking here

Alpmac- Your pictures are always outstanding. Do you mind telling what camera you use, special lens? I'm determined to get a good camera before next year's cruise. A Nikon D90 is my current first choice. I would love some imput. Thanks:)

The fish eye is pretty darn neat! I've never used one...

So are you on a cruise yourself when you took all these shots? We are first time cruisers, any tips on best shooting locations on the ship? I'm so excited for this cruise because of all the new locations to shoot! My husband was thinking of not bringing our laptop so that I won't spend too much time reviewing:cool:.

My husband was thinking of not bringing our laptop so that I won't spend too much time reviewing:cool:.

I divorce myself of all things computer and internet when on a cruise.

It forces me to play with the only other 'tech-toys' I have along with me..

the camera and lenses --makes me concentrate on the visuals!

Reviewing can come later, when I'm back home.

Wide-angles are real handy on big ships.

Get something wide if possible.

Keep horizons horizontal.

Don't submit all your junk.

Pick and choose.

Thanks Doug! I was actually just researching this beach. How easy is it to get to from the ship? I've heard that it is close, but not really walkable. Did you enjoy your day there? I'm guessing from the pictures that you did!

I showed my husband your post and he said "See??? I told you so!". I am going to resist temptation to review!

It's fun to see that someone who is from the area still cruises the islands. We are so looking forward to this trip. I'm looking forward to exploring the ship with the kids... they bring my "old" cameras and take photos along with me. We recently went to our local flower fields and my daughter took almost as many as I did, and she took some really good ones. Thanks again for posting all of your pictures, I really enjoy them.

Actually, to be quite honest, although we have taken eight cruises, none of them have been to Antigua. As it happens, I have spent quite a bit of time on the island in the last twelve months so have had the chance to explore it.

I have heard that people can walk from the ship to Dickenson's. Don't. It's only ten to fifteen minutes by cab and when you take the ride, you'll be glad you didn't walk. If you disagree, why, you can walk back! Dickenson's is probably the number one choice for a beach day off a cruise ship.

Thanks for the walking advice Doug (definitely taxi!), and for the new photos! That Half Moon Bay is beautiful! Oh how I wish I was there now... Although I guess I can't really complain too much as I just finished my morning walk along the beach here in San Diego, but it's just different. No sparkling turquoise, warm waters here. But I did see dolphins this morning. They were "surfing" in the waves, it was a blast to watch!:)

I think we will plan for Dickenson's. This is our day with no excursions planned, just to kind of hang out and relax - I'm really working to keep balance in the vacation. I've read that there are water sports at this beach? We might take a spin on a jet ski if it is available. I've got a 13 year old son whose only request on the cruise is to do a jet ski one day, so I've got to fill that bill. My daughter desperately wants to parasail, but she is a slight, waiflike (dancer!) 10 year old, and I'm afraid her weight will not make parasail restrictions. We might have to wait for her to grow a bit before we can answer that wish. I'm trying to substitute with a segway in St. Maarten, but having little luck convincing her that they will be just as fun.

Thanks again for taking the time to post the pictures (I don't know about the size, but will watch for the response so I can post mine when we return!). I really appreciate it. All these photos really bring the islands to life in our minds... it's so excited to see what we will actually see in a few months! Thanks you guys!
