- a question for aplmac. Love the gorgeous photos.

So how do you get them to display so large?

What you're seeing here..

are links to my stash of photos at Photobucket.com

where they are stored at the size you see here

.......................

This one's taken along the boardwalk that runs between the two cruise-ships piers in the St.Johns inlet

See the little gull flying - at top left?

My daughter desperately wants to parasail, but she is a slight, waiflike (dancer!) 10 year old

and I'm afraid her weight will not make parasail restrictions.

We might have to wait for her to grow a bit before we can answer that wish.

I'm not certain about this but...

there may be a Parasail operation here in Barbados (bin going for years..decades)

and they may have a smaller chute to use for lighter people? It's a possibility

so she may yet get the thriller ride of her life!

........

OK I got a number on the island

230-9549 ..better write that down coz it's not in the book. ;)

The guy said there's just one size chute,

but they do have a smaller harness for smaller bodies

but minimum weight is 90 lbs.

I guess it would help too if it's not a windy day.

Hope this helps.

Oh to be 90 lbs again!!!:D Sadly, she is only 61 lbs (and that is after a full meal!). I think she is going to have to wait a couple of years... I think that is the magic number to ride in the front seat of the car too - something else she desperately would like to do. She's 10, but thinks she's about 14...

How sweet of you to look that up! I will definitely keep the info because my son would like to do it too. Not sure if I can work it with him doing it and her not, especially as it is my daughter who really, really wants to do it. I think he will have to be happy with his jet ski ride.

Thanks again Aplmac! I think that the last picture you posted is one of my favorite.

Kim, try to Google 'Tony's Water Sports Antigua'. That may give you the excitement your family wants and you could try to e-mail them in advance just to check.

For food and drink on Dickenson's, there's Sneaky Pete's next to Tony's. At the north end of the beach there's Halcyon Cove resort and at the south end two restaurants - The Beach and Coconut Grove (there's Sandals in the middle but you can't get in to it. Beaches are public so Sandals can't keep you off their beach.) There's also a small grocery store in the parking lot at Antigua Village if you just want something out of the fridge, including suds. You might also see the old gal selling fresh fruit out of the back of a station wagon.

(Must now investigate Photobucket)
These pics of yours would look so much better Up BIG.

Go to photobucket.com and set yo'self up an account

-and then start posting up all your pics to that account.

(Look for a blue rectangle named [CHOOSE FILES] ..

..click on that and up pops a Directory box for the contents of your HD)

Once you get going, you can arrange folders, sub-folders, sub-sub-folders

(poke around the links in my account and see!) ;)

http://s177.photobucket.com/albums/w219/aplmac/Carnival%20VICTORY%20Apr%2009/

There are five cruises-worth of photos under aplmac

Once you get things established at Photobucket

you'll notice a small bank of four (pale-yellow) links under/in a box named SHARE THIS IMAGE..

..on individual-photo page only, not the album page

I routinely use the bottom-most link, by clicking on it(which auto-Copy's it to the clipboard)

and then I just Paste it into these posts, along with my explanatory text!

I showed my daughter (10 y/o) your pictures today, leave it to her to notice that the ship was right there so "Mom.... we can just get off the ship and shop!" Looks like she will get over the no parasailing!

Is she a girl or what? :D

Yes, the ship is Right There..

and as you exit the secure area at the base of the pier

make a sharp right onto the boardwalk between the two piers as seen in this shot..

ANU-361.jpg

You don't have to go far from the pier at all...not at Antigua!

There are many little shops in the area to the right of where this picture shows

(hidden by the bow of the big cruise-ship)

Tropical clothing, sun dresses and other interesting things to buy

Aplmac, great pics! Olivia is VERY excited to see how close the shopping is. She even mentioned that maybe, just maybe if the boys go parasailing we will have almost (maybe) as much fun if we get to spend the afternoon shopping. Yes.... ALL girl!:D

In St.Maarten too, shopping(much better shopping) is also kinda close.

Take the water taxi over(easier and more scenic) $6 or 7 per person for the green wristband

that allows you to joyride it back and forth whole day if you care to

-it'll drop you off right at the end of Front Street, so turn left to go down the street with the deals

It'll look a lot like this

This pic taken when we first got onto Front St.,P-burg, SXM

When I try to upload I keep getting 'invalid file'.
You'll need to be a bit clearer, more specific than that if we're to help...

Have U created a P-bucket account?

Are U trying to upload to P-bucket?

or trying to Paste the link in to a CC post??

Yay Aplmac!! My husband says I need to stop reading this thread as it appears that it may cost him some extra $$$. :D Olivia send her thanks (as do I)! She said "I really like that guy Mom, he is so nice!" :) She has never been on a message board before, and is amazed that we are chatting with people so far away.

The directions are also much appreciated. I believe I've also found a segway place in St. Maarten that will allow my 10 year old/61 1/2 lb daughter to ride even though she is not 12 years old. So as soon as we are done with the segway I believe it will be off to the shops!

Doug... great pictures! Where is that one?? So beautiful!:)

Many thanks, aplmac. ===> Glad to help! ;)

Pics look so much better.

Some day, they might look as good as yours! ===> Now you need to.......

What you need to do now

is investigate some sort of image maipulation/improvement software

to crop, sharpen, improve color-contrast, tweak color levels up or down

I'm lucky to have Photoshop, which I try to use judiciously

to stay close to the real truth of the picture

-i.e. no wild departures from what was really there..

I think PAINT can (at least) CROP your pics

Picassa I'm not familiar with

but if you start asking around among your techno-geek friends

I'm sure they point you towards.... IRFANVIEW

I just remembered!

http://www.irfanview.com/main_download_engl.htm

It's pretty close to Photoshop's abilities

although the interface is not as suave and cool

but it's fairly powerful stuff!

I used it for awhile and it's OK, although a bit dorky compared to P-shop

Have a go at IrfanView,man!

These are taken from the top of Stanford's (who he?) tower near the airport. The pink tower is the airport control tower. You can see the Stanford cricket ground and the runway behind it.

Aplmac, thank you for your reviews and photos. I plan on fill a few memory cards myself in two weeks. Do you plan on posting photos of any other ports? I would love to see them. I did a quick look at the other ports of call pages, but did not see any threads of your photos. Thanks agian for all your efforts, just makes me want to go even more and the time before we leave go even slower. :):(

Aplmac, thank you for your reviews and photos. ===> You're welcome.

Do you plan on posting photos of any other ports? ===> See the CC Photo Gallery, maybe?

I would love to see them. ===> Similarly named threads at Barbados and St.Maarten

I did a quick look at the other ports of call pages, but did not see any threads of your photos.

I've started identically-named threads on three Ports-of-Call...Barbados(where I live), Antigua and St. Maarten

(even though one guy on the SXM thread grumbled that I was wasting his bandwidth)

so go look on those Ports-of-Calls and see whatever..

I've also posted over fifteen hundred photos on the Cruisecritic Photo Gallery at URL..

http://pictures.cruisecritic.com/index.php

-you might take a look there too?

Earlier in this thread you mention taking a water taxi from Antigua to St. Maarten - can you elaborate? My hubby has always wanted to watch the airplanes over the beach. Where do we catch the water taxi and how long does it take? tia!
