Do you take pictures of your food?

Recommended Posts

The food on Carnival was outstanding. Now I am starving after looking at theses from a land resort plus there it's all you can drink:p Vacations are wonderful!

Great shots of the food. Maybe one day I'll force myself back on one of their ships. I like the RCCL ships better.

aplmac -- What is that big yellow thing on the plate with the pineapple?
Not sure,honestly!

All I remember was a nice flaky pastry thing with (I think) a chicken filling.

Yes, I do. I take pics of everything but I get so embarrased. My family just looks at me like "you've seen food before." Sometimes I won't cause I dont wanna see their looks. Sometimes I just say forget them. :)

I think that is not pineapple but polenta.

OMGOSH!!! I haven't looked at my photo of Warm Chocolate Melting Cake in quite a while. I'd forgotten how much I missed it. After having it 3 nights in a row, my waiter KNEW what I wanted for dessert the rest of the week.

I have photos of the yummy cold soups, the escargot.....

The previous photo of the lobster tail is making my mouth water too. Can't wait to sail again in Oct.

I do! I frame the good ones and put them on the wall in my kitchen, too! On my first cruise, our tablemates thought it was such a good idea that they did it too... It helps if you have your camera set on the closeup or macro mode, and hold it straight down at your plate or place setting. The pix don't look as good if there is a bite missing, as I found out on my first cruise...lol... the really good pix will make you want to go on another cruise, as I found out after taking pix of the hot chocolate souffle on Disney, YUM!!! everyone who sees that picture wants to go! Enjoy yourself and don't worry what others think!

Well, I only started taking pix of food (in restaurants, in planes) a couple of years ago (all the fault of Flyertalk and Flickr --- there are soooo many food pix on Flickr!!) and as you can see from my signature it has been a good deal longer than that since I've been on a cruise. But you can bet that I will have my camera with me and snapping happily away on our upcoming cruise!! ;) My hubby can get a little perturbed when I take too long "composing" a shot but I don't let it bother me. And if I can handle a few scowls from hubby, I'm not going to be worried about anyone else giving me a look.:D In fact, it has never been a problem in restaurants and so I expect it will not be a problem on a cruise. Go for it!

I just found this thread and YES of course I take pictures of the food. Funny story... I am going on a Med cruise on HAL in September. A friend of mine who is on my golden retriever list, is going on a different Med cruise on HAL in September. I shared some photos that were posted on this site from someone who took "my" cruise last month. My friend's first question was... "Didnt' she eat?"

How do you keep track of your descriptions? They are so detailed... Do you write them down at dinner to remember them later?

I took pictures of the menus. Too blurry to put online but good enough for me to transcribe.

When you live in a "Pop Tart & Hot Pocket" world, the pictures remind you of the fabulous foods you sampled during your time away from REALITY!

I even take a picture of the menu so I can refer back to it during them meal. You can never tell when you might want something else & you don't have to bother the waiter.

We always ask the waiter if we can keep one menu on the table during dinner. We pretty much do that at sit down restaurants, so we can a) study b)dream about our next meal c)learn a little bit more about the restaurant while we are waiting to be served. On the ship it's basically to study what we want next if our dinner is not OK.:p

Thanks to everyone who shared their most wonderful cruise cuisine photos with us! Personally, I don't often take photos of my plates, but I have taken many photos of the buffet lines at the resorts where I have stayed. However, on my next cruise, I will be glad to take photos of the food served, and share them with the board.

Thus, I challenge ALL of you to do the same,.....yes, you too,....(why are you looking at me like that?). This way, we can help "promote" the cruise line industry by displaying all of the hard work done to prepare your cuisine.

FWIW, I was a chef for a number of years, and if I saw a photograph of someone's plate that I had personally prepared, I would be highly flattered.

Thanks for reading this post, as I tend to babble occasionally,.....but I will leave you with this photo. On one of my many trips to St. Petersburg, Russia, we were at small cafe, and they had the most wonderful desserts in a case:

I keep hoping a cruise line will see my food pictures on the web and hire me to snap and eat through a comped cruise. Hey, one can wish.

FWIW, I was a chef for a number of years, and if I saw a photograph of someone's plate that I had personally prepared, I would be highly flattered. That is so good to hear. I often take pictures of my entrees in restaurants if the presentation is exceptional or the food really good. I hope the word does get back to the chef, not just a "we've got another crazy person taking pictures of food"
