Istanbul or Rhodes

Recommended Posts

Which city is better if I had to choose? What is the difference between the two and what do you suggest to see at each port?

Soooo confusing:confused:

Here is a link to Istanbul: http://www.europeportreviews.com/Istanbul.htm

Here is the link to Rhodes:

Istanbul is a fascinating city, one that I'd return to again versus visiting Rhodes for the first time, that tells you what I think :D

There is a vast difference between Istanbul and Rhodes. Istanbul is a much larger city with lots more to see than Rhodes.

While I do like Rhodes, If I had to pick between the two I would visit Istanbul as in addition to all the things to see it is also good to see much of the culture of this city and country. You can visit the Blue Mosque, The Grand Bazaar, Topkapi Palace and Hagia Sophia. Not sure how long you plan to stay but there are many other places to see beyond these sites as well.

Istanbul/Constantinople/Byzantium was and remains an important city. For 1000 years it was the most important city in the Mediterranean and for a substantial portion of that time arguably the most important in the world. It was the capital of the Roman Empire for a much longer time than Rome was. There is a bit of history, art, architecture, culture there.

Rhodes has a long history also and interesting sites, but nothing in comparison to The City -- the largest city in Europe, by the way.

Rhodes does have better beaches, though.

Obviously, I am being a bit facetious. I would always be more than happy to spend a few days on Rhodes. Istanbul, though, is one of those places that everyone should visit.
