Eng23 Posted July 3, 2012 #153 Share Posted July 3, 2012 Hmmm. Things you'll never see on a cruise ship... Almost stole one of my answers... An adult book store. Some more answers: * A ship with only well known chain stores and restaurants * Free high speed internet access from every cabin in the ship (that is actually high speed for everyone) * Open bars are in the majority of cruise sailings * A free intranet based social network for singles on the cruise you are on (free wifi based offering) * A "red light" level (including permitted public sex in designated areas) * A configuration of lit votive candles available to order in cabin for a special evening with someone * All cabins on the ship come with free massage chairs * A roller coaster * Official cruise photographers provide any of your pictures for free via e-mail/web * The name "Titanic" reused for a modern ship * You're cruise is free if you have the best door decoration * They dump the towel animals and use real ones * A dog park * A club you can join of people whom ensure you don't spend anymore time in your cabin than you have to (anti-cabin hermits anonymous) * Waterbeds * Moving walkways * Getting to enjoy the company of your favorite staff in their off hours (they always seem locked away when they aren't working) * A passenger driven DJ system * A play casino where no real money is won or lost and all the standard games are available * Digital food ordering (in existing places food is ordered verbally) * A live game with professional sports players (like you'd normally see at a stadium) * Free in cabin computers and modern console gaming systems * No hassle cabin moves for reasons of excessive ship noise or unpleasant ship odors * All cabins equipped with surround sound stereo systems * Water skiing available at the back of the ship when sailing a minimal speed * Passenger usable fully stocked kitchen (lets play Iron Chef!) * Public showers available (so there is less "scheduling of time" for multi-passenger cabins) * Free makovers for nominated/voted for passengers * Enough power outlets so you don't need to use a power strip or share outlets amongst your devices (especially those that charge batteries) Well this post was 3 years ago, let's see what we have now: Chain stores/restaurants: Starbucks at sea (Allure of the Seas), Guy Fieri's Burger Joint (Carnival ships). Titanic is being considered to be reused as the name of a cruise ship. In cabin computers/game systems: Some Royal Caribbean ships now have Ipads in the cabins. Dog Park: Service dogs are provided an area for thier use and can go with thier master throughout the ship. So I guess some things that we might think "never on a cruise ship" can actually happen. What new innovations might be next? :)
mr green Posted July 4, 2012 #154 Share Posted July 4, 2012 One thing I have never seen on a cruise ship and probably never will (hopefully) is Deck 13. I have however heard a Range,r on one of the Princess ships in Alaska announce after he came on board, that he was in fact transmitting from Deck 13. A natural mistake I guess, since Deck 12 WAS directly below. He did correct his location.:o john

jimdicap Posted July 12, 2012 #158 Share Posted July 12, 2012 how about a swap meet--so people can trade all the useless stuff they bought in port with other people's useless junk.
mr green Posted July 12, 2012 #159 Share Posted July 12, 2012 how about a swap meet--so people can trade all the useless stuff they bought in port with other people's useless junk. Now that's a good one!:D Better yet, have cruise ships trade their junk for somthing better! It has often wondered of the mentality of the buyers who get some of this 'stuff'. Take the $10.00 watches, please. I picked one up once, and tried to change the time on it, but the spindle came off! opps!!! john
xenagurl Posted July 17, 2012 #160 Share Posted July 17, 2012 Regeneration pods like they have on Star Trek Voyager. The kind that 7 of 9 uses. After you've had too much booze, don't go back to your room and sleep it off, pack in some Red Bull like it's Ketracel White and simply regenerate. IPlayWithString Posted August 6, 2013 #166 Share Posted August 6, 2013 I know what you mean. I was totally thrown off by an e-mail Expedia sent 05/26/2009 about my flight. I didn't realize that most of the airlines are no longer giving you one freebie checked luggage. That so sounds like its going to make for even more crowded overhead compartments. I was reading this and laughed out loud. On our last flight, people were going to extremes to avoid checking baggage. Two ladies (who I assume were together) had stuffed two large, brown paper bags like you get from certain retail stores with things and then wrapped the bags several times in twine to keep them from falling open. I was like "Whoa..really?".
SXMFreedom Posted November 23, 2013 #167 Share Posted November 23, 2013 When I was in the Boise airport last fall, I noticed a local Subaru dealership had a new Outback station wagon parked inside. Now, I know that the Royal C. Freedom that I will embark on in March does have an antique car parked on the promenade. I do find that kind of classy. But I reckon there's no dealer space for "Subaru van Sint Maarten" onboard for the '15 Forrester. :D
