Pincus Posted December 13, 2004 #26 Share Posted December 13, 2004 What a wonderful review! Thank you so much, I'm glad you had a good cruise.
texasgirl Posted December 13, 2004 #27 Share Posted December 13, 2004 There's not a foosball table that I am aware of, just a couple of pingpong tables. We docked at every port which was wonderful! No tendering at all. The only other things that I can think of offhand that had a charge were the wine tastings ($8 a person I think), the casual alternative dining suggests a $2 per person cash gratuity, the yoga and pilates are $10 a class with a pass being available - cost depends on the length of the cruise. On our 11 day cruise there were 16 total yoga and pilates classes. I know Mic was working to get a standardized place to workout so there should be no problem. bakcd Posted December 13, 2004 #28 Share Posted December 13, 2004 This is a very thorough review. We are considering a booking on the Horizon. We have cruised on HAL several times but never Celebrity. One of the things we enjoy, as a part of our exercise, is walking on the deck. Is there a deck where this is possible? Is it shaded? Thank you for sharing.
ivylane Posted December 14, 2004 #29 Share Posted December 14, 2004 We were on Horizon a few years ago and are going on the Jan 10 run on her again. Yes, there is a promenade around the ship on the upper deck, not really covered but what a great view! My hubby and I would walk around the ship on this deck several times to get some excercise in. Bonus:it's close to the buffet, pizza and burgers!:p
ntoto2 Posted December 14, 2004 #30 Share Posted December 14, 2004 Can you pay the tips on a credit card? RCCL allows this and it comes up as a roomservice charge. Also, does anyone know anything about the kids programs? Thanks, Renee
texasgirl Posted December 14, 2004 #31 Share Posted December 14, 2004 Celebrity will let you add the tips to your room charges as long as you do their suggested tip amounts. I saw one baby and one small child on our cruise so not much info on children's programs. The children's playroom was on our floor and looked very large and clean, and well supplied with things for kids to do.
CaribbeanBound Posted December 15, 2004 Author #32 Share Posted December 15, 2004 7 laps around the upper deck = 1 nautical mile, and there is no cover on the uppermost deck.
Rare mahdnc Posted December 15, 2004 #33 Share Posted December 15, 2004 Caribbeanbound, Terrific information! We are booked in HS 1016 for our Mar 2005 cruise. How about some more details about the cabin and butler? How was the service? Condition of the cabin? Noise? We will be housing our two kids in the same cabin with us--so is there a foldout couch?
CaribbeanBound Posted December 16, 2004 Author #34 Share Posted December 16, 2004 There is a couch. We never opened it. Room is nice. Full bathroom. Good sized window. Cabin was in excellent shape. Butler and cabin assistant quite good. Happy to do anything you ask. Noise: yes, occassionally heard deck chairs being moved above us. Not a big deal, but noticable at night when it happened. Capt Posted December 27, 2004 #38 Share Posted December 27, 2004 This is the finest review that I have read, for an up-coming cruise. Your time that you put into this is much appreciated. You are a definate asset to this board.
busybusybusy Posted January 2, 2005 #39 Share Posted January 2, 2005 Thank you so much! We are going on Horizon to Bermuda in August, and you have answered so many of my questions! You are the best! :D
MSUSigmaK Posted January 2, 2005 #40 Share Posted January 2, 2005 It depends on which cruise you will be on, the 10 night to Panama or the 11 night. If you are on the Panama cruise, you will tender in Georgetown. That was the only port, all others dock. I did notice that the gangway had an extreme arch this past cruise, wear comfortable flats and you should have no problem. Regarding getting a chair at the pool, I am one of those folks who begins sitting out at 7am watching the sun rise and then in the sun all day. So I see folks getting their place in the sun or shade early in the day. I would see a few chairs sitting empty for hours, most often in the shaded areas, but not that many on the Horizon. I think it is because there are places other then the pool area to sun. No matter what cruise you are on, you cannot wait until midday and expect to get a chair in the pool area. Later in the afternoon chairs do open up if you want to avoid too much sun. Horizon does not have a specialty restaurant. A 15% tip will be added to all drink orders and you will have the option of putting your end of the cruise tips on your sail away card. If you need cash at any time during your cruise their is an ATM machine on board near the casino. You can also get cash in the casino which will be charged to your sail away card. In Panama, prices were less if you did not use your credit card and that may be same in other ports. Please feel free to ask any questions, that is why we're on these boards! And, have a great trip, you will love the Horizon.
nashby Posted January 3, 2005 #41 Share Posted January 3, 2005 CaribbeanBound or Texasgirl, we will climbing aboard Horizon for this same itinerary a week from today on 1/10. (I know, you are all very jealous). Do they have 3 INFORMAL nights or do they replace one of those with a casual night? I read on one of the other reviews that they do that on this one. Thanks for the reviews and comments.
MSUSigmaK Posted January 3, 2005 #42 Share Posted January 3, 2005 Mahdnc, my husband, daughter and I were in 1017 last year. My daughter slept on the sofa bed, it is not large so I hope your 2 children get along well. The bed on the other hand is a good size so you may find yourself with one of them joining you. We were in 1007 this year. I did not notice any noice from above or from the hallway. We had John as our butler on both cruises. He is wonderful. My daughter was not feeling well and he brought her hot tea during the day. You will also have tea delivered in the afternoon along with tea sandwiches, cookies, etc. We had breakfast delivered only once. We ordered the waffles with strawberries and whipped cream. He brought fresh strawberries, a wonderful change from the strawberries usually served with breakfast. Friends in the room next to us had a party before dinner and John took care of the food and drinks.
Wormtown Posted January 4, 2005 #43 Share Posted January 4, 2005 Thanks CaribbeanBound and Texasgirl for your great reviews of the Horizon. My husband and I will be cruising the Western Caribbean on the Horizon in March. I enjoyed both of your reviews of the ship as it will be our first time on the Horizon (great information). Our last cruise was on the Constellation in December. We only had one day at sea. This upcoming cruise has 4 days at sea, so we're wondering where the gym is on the Horizon. My deck plans from the brochure shows no gym. We'll need the gym to burn off some of those excess calories. Can you tell me which deck it is located on? Thank you, Linda
Hilary Posted January 4, 2005 #44 Share Posted January 4, 2005 They gym is very small and located on the Sun deck (top deck) opposite the Aqua Spa.
