Passing sensitive info to private tour companies

For those of you who have booked private tours in St Peterburg, how have you chosen to pass sensitive information to them, such as passport numbers and credit card information?

 

Letters, fax, phone, email,....?

 

Anyone have any issues with passing the information?

I was not comfortable with straight email, and Fax seemed to be problematic as you never know where it's going. I would recommend calling them, or if you are emailing scan it as an attachment first.
