I play on cruises but nothing serious. I really enjoy craps and would love to learn better strategy to making my money last longer.

 

Do C&E bets make sense?

I'm here. Pass line, odds and 2 come bets is all I play.:) I never vary from that strategy. Occasionally I'll spread $4 on the hardways for the dealers. My DW also plays if no one is at her favorite "Let it Ride" table.

 

I'm a dice setter and often get challenged by the stick man for throwing the dice too high in an arc trying for that single roll at the backboard.

They do if they win. :D

But generally those bets in the middle of the table are sucker bets.

Dice is my game as well. I have only been to Vegas a few times, but have hit the Louisiana casinos from time to time. Shipboard craps is usually very fun.

 

I believe more are coming around to 2x odds, for the longest time, they only had 1x odds..which makes the grind player work abit harder.

 

I have played wrong, but stick mostly to the pass side. Ship-based dealers get week in and week out of right side players, if you play heavy dark - you may find yourself helping the dealer with the odds and payouts. They don't handle it often enough to have the math (stack) down pat. In my experience.

 

I find it hard to get rated well, RCCL's Player's Club only seems to want very high end players. I play with plenty of greens, but not too many black chips. But I am there just to enjoy the game. I genuinely like the action, and keeping up with it, establishing a repoire' with the dealers so you know each other's moves by mid-week, etc.

 

I like people watching too. Craps attracts a variety of folks, it is sometimes amusing to watch them play or interact with each other. Especially the show-offs or big-spenders.

 

I tend to tip well, and keep my game organized, so dealers tend to like me as low maintenance.

 

Funny though, all the math and stats say the dice have no memory. But a hot roll is something very cool to experience. We were jammed 10 to a side once on NE. The lady shooter passed like twelve times, with half of those being 4s. I thought the ship would tilt with the amount of chips being racked. This very last cruise, there was a kid who had turned 21 that week. On two different nights, he held the dice for 20+ mins each.

 

Best of luck to yall. Let the house get their 1.41% from some other sucker.

You are right about having to help the dealers caculate don't players payoffs. Especially when the player has three don't points and the shooter seven's out. Boy does that mess up the flow of the game. That is the bad part as it can tend to tick off other players. BUT, if you are being paid $500 should you be too concerned? :D

My friends are the dealers. I really don't pay attention to what other players think. And I do exactly what you say. I toke them (tip) the dealers from time to time. They actually get on my side and help me place my bets. I pretty much have the same routine the entire game and they know exactly what to do with my bets. I only have to call them out just as a formality.

I think the rating issue is that what are the chances you'll be back on a cruise anytime soon? I've seen them comp some drinks to the high rollers.

 

On our past Christmas cruise the dealers started calling me "Silent Night" since I play pretty seriously and don't hoot and holler, even after rolling for 30 minutes.

5ilent Night. I love it. That is a great nickname. I see "silent night" types now and then. These are the guys that end up buying in for two hundred bucks and end up growing their chips in the rails significantly. They have no emotion but are fantastic players. A lot of times they will take a long break and not place any bets and watch the table like a hawk and jump in wheb the time is right. Some of them even have mini notepads and record the rolls and develop a game plan.

Agree, in Vegas you can stroll out the door and be at another table in two minutes. Where ya gonna go at sea? And for most craps players, they will be there every night that week - so little enticement needed.

 

I have gotten drinks and small favors from the local bosses, I just have never gotten in good with the corporate plan - where they start throwing some OBC towards future cruises. Land based clubs I have visited, send offers in the mail every few weeks it seems.

 

SilentNight, does your Diamond status get you any more notice or interest? And have you seen other RCCL ships with 2x or even higher odds?

Think about the high rollers and a comp cruise. Assume they spend maybe $2-3,000 on a cruise, step up to the craps table and lay out $1500 in Bennies for a short session. What value to them is a free cruise? I watched a couple of guys on my last cruise playing blackjack with 5 black chips per bet and playing two hands. A free cruise is chump change to them. Never seen odds over 2X on any cruise.

I'm new to this gambling thing, and I want to start off on the right foot. :) What is the general rule of thumb regarding tipping the dealer? :confused: EDIT: I'm starting a new thread on this subject, as to not highjack this one. Sorry!

Most of you say what the instructor said, "Pass line, always back up the pass line, feeling confident make a few place bets.) However, saw a guy at the tables in Detroit make the crazy inside bets and grow his stack from 100 to 3000 in the space of about 20 minutes. I'll take the contact adrenaline buzz. :D

I have seen hop bets taken by the boss, but it is super rare. So I think you could easily be playing on a table where the crew doesn't want to fool with them. I doubt there is a company standard that they all follow the same.

 

Why do ask? With your low remarks on prop bets - I have always heard that hops have same high a house adv, like 10%+.

I do make one hop bet at times. I do it insead of the any seven bet. It is part of my system I use. Any seven pays four to one and the hop 7's pay 15:1. Which is the better buy? :D

Crazy bets can make you money if you're lucky, and they're fun when you're up, but in the long run they're losing bets.

Oh man! You must be so drunk while gambling. HAHA!

 

Every time I play there is some idiot that parlays a hardway and then wins $450. Put then pizzes it back in 5 mins later. Loses another $600 then hits it again and screams like he won the friggin lottery. Then pizzes is back in.

 

Lather rinse repeat. What a crack pot!
