Craps Players Step Inside!

Yo thanks for the info

I went to Vegas a few years ago, took a beginner lesson. they showed a lot about hard way and things. I had no real idea what I was doing when I played that night. I just played pass bets with no odds.

, When it was my turn to roll I rolled for a while, like 45 minutes. Anyhow long story short. I made a lot more money from other players throwing me tips than I made myself. (by a long shot) finally trying to learn the game, enjoying this post.

Oh brother-propostition bets. AKA hard way and "things"

These are one of the dumbest bets in craps. The stickman becomes a carnival barker and tries to lure folks to place these foolish bets. I do make one proposition bet from time to time, but I use it as a hedge bet in the system I use. But I am speaking specifically of the hard way bets. As I said before, I laugh at the players that play this routinely. Yeah they hit it once and awhile. Big deal, they win $450, put pi$$ed away $800 to get that win. Dumb bets these proposition bets. Don't do it. There are a lot of other ways to win big money in craps than fall for these sucker bets.

If you continually play Come bets, when you win one, the dealer will place part of your winnings back in the Come box for another Come bet if you typically play that way and didn't have a new Come bet in play, otherwise, they give you the entire bet and winnings back. You can take that back if you want before the roll. The Pass line, Field and Come (and Don'ts) are the only places on the table you can touch the chips. Everywhere else the dealer places and removes the chips.

On a Come out roll, and a 7 is rolled, you lose all existing Come bets but you get the odds part back since they were not in play on the Come out roll (ie. the marker was "OFF"). So, when I have a couple of Come bets on the table, I'm not rooting for a 7 Come out roll like many others.

You can also put a tip, even $1, alongside your Pass line bet for the dealers. I typically play $1 on each of the hardways for the dealers from time to time.

I am thinking this answer is self explaining but I will ask it any way.

Odd's 2 x etc

So if I bet $10 on the pass line 2 x odds I can put $20 behind it?

5 x I could put $50 and so on

Is this the same on come bets?

Yes to all!

I am willing to give a Craps lecture going step by step and beginning from the basics. That is if anyone is interested. I don't want to post stuff that folks don't want to hear. But there does seem to be some interest in the game by folks who want to try it out.

It is very intimidating to go to a craps table and learn. Even if you go to the "lessons" they give on the cruise, it is only somewhat helpful and generally does not give you the confidence to play and win.

Although I play the "dark side" which I will go into, I will educate you playing "right" that is playing the pass line. For those who are interested I can tell you more about the dark side. But, as a beginner you should play like most others play. That being the pass line.

Let me know what ya think and others can chime in as well when I give the lesson. We are here to learn. :D

Perhaps a suggestion. Try the Casino Player magazine website. I subscribe to their magazine and they have books on gaming for sale. I'm not suggesting the books that "guarantee a winning system" but the books offered that are about the game. I've found the instructional books and videos (now DVD's) very helpful to beginners.

My DW and I used to only play slots. We watched the chaos at the craps table and decided we wanted to be a part of that. So we set out to learn craps and blackjack. Prior to the internet shutdown, I used to play $1 live blackjack on the web. That was a lot of fun.

Looks like Barney Frank is trying to bring back internet gaming to the US so they can tax it. I can't stand him, but I'll give him credit if he succeeds in bringing back internet gaming, even if its only for the taxes.

I would be interested. Why not this is a casino board and this is a craps thread.

Well I am hoping for a small group. Not just one person. I got you registered for the class though. :D

Yo Eleven,

Not sure what you mean by giving a letcure on craps but I think I would be interested. I have been reading these post and found them educational. I consider myself a beginner. I do the come out with odds and do two come bets after that. On a rare ocassion will do a hard way. Got a lot to learn.

Hello. Simply giving tips on how to play. The REAL do and don'ts. etc. I'll add you to the class. It will be pretty basic. I guess a lecture was the wrong word. LOL!

Is this so wrong? I HATE to "shoot"! :o

Players understand when I'm a Don't Come Player (on land) ... but ... many seem mad (on ships) when I motion to pass it along to the next when I'm a Come Player. Is it so awful not to like to roll the dice?

This goes under one of those wild myths that it is bad luck for a Pass Line player to pass the dice and not shoot. Unless you had your wife toss the dice on your behalf, simply passing them is like having a black cat walk across the table. You are a troublemaker. HAHA! :D

Thing is ... I am the WIFE. My DH never does craps but loves BlackJack. I totally love craps and have played for too long to tell!

Per your suggestion... I'll shoot the next time I'm on a ship! Thing is ...I always have the worst luck when I shoot ... and 7 OUT (without making any numbers) at the worst possible time for Pass Players ... on the 4th roll! :o

No Problem! :D Most assume it's the husband, not the wife, who enjoys CRAPS!

Hope that 7 you rolled was a for my first pass line bet! :) Keep those 7s coming and then start rolling some NUMBERS! :p

I'll give you one free seven on the come out roll. But, for now on all sevens rolled are for the don't pass and don't come points. Smile! You are on casino camera. Hahaha

One of the recommended ways to play I read about is called the 5 throw rule. You wait to bet until after the first 5 throws. I don't, you never know when the long roll is going to begin.

Why is that?

1. You need a complete knowledge of the game.

2. Money management and discipline are a must,

Some good books for an undertanding of the game are Craps, Advanced Craps, and Money Management For Gamblers.

They are written by, John Patrick.

Why is that?

This 5 roll wait was in a book I read some time ago, and the purpose was to see if the shooter had a rhythm to throw the dice making numbers especially those who set the dice and throw the same way every time.

I firmly believe one can gain an advantage setting and throwing in a pattern, hitting the same spot at the junction of the table and backboard rather than just picking them up and throwing at random.

I agree. I play craps a good bit, both on cruises and in casino's (such as Vegas and Biloxi). You can "seem" to have an advantage by trying to hit the same spot on the table with the same arch and all. There are so many things that technically have to go right for you to really gain an advantage, but I still believe in it, lol.

I've been able to be the only player for an hour or two on a HAL cruise and be setting the dice and throwing, and walking away with more than I started with. "Seems" to work for me.

I'm not an expert, and haven't quit my day job, but I always seem to do better than grab and throw shooters.

Don't know the first thing about the science of throwing the bones. All I know is I start throwing one way and when I change things go wrong. Not a big gambler but do injoy the game. I adhere to the KISS therory and stay with that. :D
