Tipping the dealer

I'm on holiday

Recommended Posts

:rolleyes:Normally when im winning, say in poker. I win with a big hand in poker, and win the huge pot you tip the dealer generously

Welcome to the casino section!

When you say generously how about an example.

You win a nice pot. Lets say 1000 bucks. How much you tip?

Americans would tip between 20 and 100.

British and Aussie between 0 and 5.

I made a similar comment like this regarding to tipping and someone from that group showed up asking what I meant about it. Never did reply to it. HAHA!

I hope the redcoats don't hunt you down here. :D

People write about tipping "for good service." Yet, a dealer who is grouchy, or like a robot, or in general NOT providing any kind of good service, will share in the tip pool anyway. Doesn't seem fair.

Look at it this way: on Princess, if I leave the full auto-tip on (and I always do on lines doing it this way), then any extra that I give the cabin attendant or MDR staff, is theirs to keep. GREAT! In the casino, I believe that all tips are pooled. I guess it would have to work that way because dealers are rotating constantly.

I have no idea about how the system works for bar wait people - where does the dollar I drop on the tray go?

Comments, please.

I have never met a Dealer that never wanted me to bet for his toke.

Seems a bit bizarre, since most toke bets at the crap tables are on the sucker bets (IINM, "2-way Yo" is the most common. followed by 2-way hard ways). If I'm having a good night and toking a quarter when I leave, I want them to HAVE it!

One of the best ways to tip at the craps table is to cover the inside numbers for the dealers. Place $4.00 on the table and tell the dealer inside numbers for the dealers. He or (or she) will put $1. on the 5, 6, 8, and 9. When any of these numbers hit the dealer will be paid $2.00 for the hit and your bet will be taken down. The dealers are rooting for these inside numbers to hit, and so are you. You are covering four numbers for $4.00 for the dealers with a possible $12.00 tip for the working people. Lots of action for dealers with a minimum outlay from the player. This is a great tip with some longevity of play. It is greatly appreciated by the dealers.

Only use this method if you are playing right (betting with the dice- not the dark side).

Remember: MONEY MANAGEMENT IS THE KEY TO WINNING !

Any recommendation for the dark side?

Lay on the inside for the dealers? LOL!

I drink with the casino staff on every cruise I go on, and regularly email with them after the trip. They all agree that the tips are nice but the most important thing to them is good comments on the comment cards. WITH NAMES LISTED. "The casino staff was great" is a good thing but "the casino staff was great especially, Mo Larry and Curly" really gets those individuals noticed. On my last cruise I wrote a 2 page review on the last night in order to list everyone's name that helped me out so much. I asked for extra paper at the main desk. More good comments get them promotions and other perks.

Thanks for that information. I will keep that in mind. I always do this for others like dining and room stewart. As much time as I spend in the Casino, it has never occured to me to do this for them. I will definitely make a point on my next trip if their service is worthy. However, if I find them not very engaging and distant and distracted where I have to continually correct my pay off or get their attention to make a payoff(etc), that is a turn off to me for any tip or recognition.

I agree with your thoughts completely on tipping. We shared our tips and were happy when some dealers were fired because they would give the casino a bad name. Usually dealers that keep their own tips will bring and take their toke box with them when they arrive and leave a table. They also usually work a shorter at a table and then go to the next table on their schedule. Management is usually eager to hear about dealers that are rude or giving inadequate service.

Dealers love to play the tokes-it's more fun to be involved. But realistically-it's more rewarding to just take the toke and not take the chance of putting it into the house's bank.

To date I have only seen dealers wanting me to bet their token at least on bj.

I was playing 3 card on RCCL, I was about to play my last hand for the night and the dealer was dealing her last hand, we had a total blast at the table and making some money. I had been tipping but I threw her 10 bucks before the last hand was dealt. She took 5 of it and bet along with my pair plus. Sure enough.....lightning in a bottle. 4c-5c-6c for a nice 200 pay out for the dealers, as well as a pretty pay out for myself.

When everyone started to cheer one of the dealers I knew at another table said "should have been betting for the dealer", he laughed and thanked me when we saw there was 5 up there for them.

After that we hit the nightclub and every dealer that walked in there bought me a drink. If only it were that easy every hand

No.... did you notice any change in the dealers' behavior or procedures after that?

It has only happened ONCE ever when I was playing. And this is over the course of several years and dozens of sessions.

I had no idea what the heck was going on at first.

YES! There was a change in behavior. The stickman was hustling for players to bet for them. They were very comical about it and it was actually entertaining. Saying things like "please feed the animals" They made it clear that it was not required just that if they didn't tip them that more sevens were coming out. Didn't matter to me though. LOL! I told them that and they said that the don't pass line was CLOSED. They were only joking. It lasted for about 15 minutes until the boxman said no more, yellow light now. It was strange. I then later learned what they were doing by reading up on a craps book about hustling tips from the players. Most players were cool about it, but a couple were "offended" by it.

To me it was entertaining and added some spice to the table. Lots of jokes and comedy. The stickman did all sorts of tricks with the stick. Loved it! And yes, this all happened on a cruise ship. :D

My guess is that they really weren't supposed to do that but the cat was out of the casino so the mice played. HAHA!

Story time:cool:

About 25 years ago when I was a novice 21 player at the Golden Nugget, Vegas (best place for blackjack BACK THEN, NOT NOW) I had a very un-attractive down right scary looking female Dealer. Know one would sit at her table. I did. As I was doing o.k., so I tipped. Iam probably known for over tipping, but who cares.

As I was playing and getting ready to hand signal for a card, she blew right by me and proceeded to bust. On other occassions she made it known to me to bet more. This happened for quite a while. As months and years went by I got to know her and she was a Counter. A freakin computer. Things like that don;t happen anylonger so I just tip as needed nothing crazy. By tipping more isn't going to do anything.

At that time I was hooked. Not to Gamble, but to have fun and make $.

Did you end up going on a date after her shift was over? LOL!

It would be nighttime so you wouldn't see her face anyway. :D
