Vow Renewal: Small gift for Captain???

Recommended Posts

DH and I will be renewing our vows on the Carnival Triumph during our cruise to Canada (only 12 more days and counting).

I've already set aside cash to tip the waiters & coordinator but would like to show our appreciation to the Captain with a small gift.

Does anyone have any ideas for an appropriate gift to give the Captain? We live in a rural area of upstate NY so "hometown" anything is virtually nil.

Thanks, in advance, for any suggestions!!

A monetary gift is the best (and most appreciated) gift for ANYONE that works on the ship as they have limited living space to store odds & ends.

I've never heard of tipping the captain? Is this your first cruise, I mean have you done this in the past?

The captain doubles as the officiant during vow renewals...which is what she is having. It would basically be like tipping the officiant which is something most brides & grooms do.

That's it exactly. When we were married we went before a Justice of the Peace and the common procedure was to thank him/her with a monetary gift (not to exceed $50).

The captain does act as the officiant for the vow renewal but

I know it wouldn't be appropriate to give a monetary tip to the captain. I did want to say thank you in some small way. I asked my TA about this and she talked to her rep at Carnival. It was suggested that a thank you card (perhaps with a photo enclosed) would be appropriate so that's what we're going with.

Maddam Maria no offense but don't quote me in your comments...

I was just wondering if this was new procedure or something becasue I'd never heard of it being done in the past.... Also I really wouldn't think it was necessary. But I know that staff members generally enjoy receiving phone cards.

Happy Planning!!!

I quoted it to respond to you...which is what most of us do when we direct something specific to another member. I just responded because it did seem as if you thought there was a new procedure...and I didn't want you to panic. Sorry if you took it the wrong way...but it wasn't meant sarcastic or anything.

What does that mean? It's merely a way to respond to a question.

I do not believe most crew want phone cards. Cash is king.

Maria that's fine no hard feelings or anything:). It was just interesting to me that 3 or so ppl said the same thing yet you chose to quote me, no biggie tho. Let's just say I had a really long day when I wrote that....

6Rugrats... Really I have no response to you bc I don't quite understand what it is that you don't understand about my comment.

TTFN!!!

I quoted you to respond to you directly. The other 2 didn't seen confused or in panic mode about the thread nor asked a question about it. They just answered with their opinion. Glad there is no hard feelings and you didn't take it the wrong way.

I am guessing Rugrats just didn't see the problem with one member quoting another member when it is the norm thing to do when responding to someone directly. She is prob a bit confused because she's never seen it as being a problem before and she has been around here for awhile now. I am sure she means no hard feelings as well.

Have a good one!
