jhannah Posted June 6, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 6, 2009 In the Princess Alaska Land Excursions booklet, the Riverboat Discovery Cruise lists visiting the Athabascan village and Susan Butcher's sled dog team. In the main cruise book, the dogs aren't mentioned. Since this sternwheeler ride is included in our package, I'm wondering if we'll see the dogs or not. Is the tour in the book different? Yukon Posted June 6, 2009 #2 Share Posted June 6, 2009 You see the dogs twice - the sternwheeler pulls up to their kennel along the Chena River and a talk is given while you stay onboard, then you get up close and personal in the Village where the major stop is made. jhannah Posted June 6, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted June 6, 2009 Thanks. That's what I needed. Sounds like we just see them (which is nice.) I think we'll want to go more in-depth by taking the sled dog tour at the Princess McKinley Lodge.
Yukon Posted June 6, 2009 #4 Share Posted June 6, 2009 The presentation at the village is very good - you can touch the dogs through the fence. And you watch a cart run at the kennel.
