? about St John and Halifax

Recommended Posts

Hi. I am going to be in St. John on July 1st and Halifax on July 2nd. Can you tell me what there is to do in each of these locations? Is there a casino in each of these locations and if so, are they far from where the ships dock?

lots in both. St John is on the Bay of Fundy which has among the highest tidal changes any place. There is the reversing falls. I am unaware of a casino but I didn't look for one.

Halifax has Peggy's cove, Lunenberg, an excellent Maritime Museum, a citiadel, a cemetery where the dead(aka the non survivors) from the titanic were buried and a Casino about 20-30 minute walk from the ships terminal.

If you do a scan of the threads posted here you can learn more about each place and trip adviser(http://www.tripadvisor.com I think) has information on each port....

Here is a link to the excellent thread Acey started about Saint John.

If it is a nice day and you enjoy walking, the Harbour Passage walk along the harbourfront in Saint John is quite nice.

There is a nice casino in Halifax on the waterfront about a half hour walk from the pier. There is no casino in Saint John.

July 1st is Canada Day so a lot of places will be closed. However there will be a lot of special activities about the uptown area. Acey will probably see this thread and be able to elaborate on these activities.

In Halifax you may enjoy the Immigration Museum at Pier 21 which is right next to the cruise dock. There is also the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic about 15 minutes from the dock on the waterfront on your way to the casino. The Titanic exhibit is located there.

I would concur with Sapper1 regarding Halifax activities. I would add one thing though. If you like history, the Sackville exhibit is a WWII Corvette class warship that was used to escort the convoys across the North Atlantic from the Bedford Basin in Halifax. This ship is the last Corvette class warship in the world but was a workhorse of the Atlantic convoy escorts. A combined ticket can be purchased at the Maritimer Museum of the Atlantic. Have fun !!

I will be traveling on carnival next week to ST John( porting on Sat) and wondered if anyone knew a good local tour company? I really do not want to spend the mark up that cruise lines do .

Thanks

Freedom Tours is well-recommended on this board. Aquilla Tours is Carnival's operator and is also highly recommended, but I am not sure if they do private tours as well.
