Marie50 Posted June 11, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2009 If you wanted to do this, are you able to take cash from the onboard credit that you have pre-purchased to use at the casino? If so, do they charge any type of fee or surcharge for taking cash from your on-board credit. Thanks. Just want to avoid taking so much cash onboard. Marie50 Posted June 12, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted June 12, 2009 Thank you rob, at least this is a different question from me other than wardrobe. Do you think this is a good option to pre-purchase onboard credit and then take a cash advance from it? I just do not want to get onboard and find that this has not happened and I do not have much cash. Someone else said that if you go to the Casino cashier and ask for an advance from your room card, that there is a 3% surcharge. Is this so and is there also a surcharge if you take cash advance from your pre-purchased on-board credit? Donna
cruiseshy Posted June 12, 2009 #4 Share Posted June 12, 2009 I dont think you cn take a cash advance from any pre purchased credit. The only way to get cash is to withdraw from the casino which charges you 3%. We UK travellers are finding that as £53 buys 100USD then thats a great deal compared with exchanging our pounds with a travel agent. I have purchased OBC and like you didnt want to purchase too much as if you dont use it you lose it. So I have been reassured by a few threads on this subject which do say that if you want to take some dollars back then you can by using the casino- it still makes it a favourable exchange rate for us even with the 3% charge. However for you it would not be so appealing against using your credit card i would think.

The only way to get cash is to withdraw from the casino which charges you 3%. That is precisely what you may do...withdraw cash against OBC balance for 3% fee at the Casino. (In reality, you are "charging" an advance at the Casino, and it will show up as such - a debit against your existing credit balance in your OB account.) liketravel Posted June 12, 2009 #6 Share Posted June 12, 2009 Hi all I have read your log; I was looking for a similar thread posted some weeks ago & I cannot find it. I was interested in pre purchasing $'s prior to our 07.07 QV cruise. Information on that thread made reference to it being a very good idea as the rate of the $ to the £ was better than in the U.K. Although reading this it makes me a little apprehensive. So would people advise to do this purchase direct with Cunard or through my T/A? Kind regards Liketravel

Just give your voyage reference and charge it to a debit or credit card. I have done it this way.

ovccruiser Posted June 13, 2009 #9 Share Posted June 13, 2009 Thanks Ships Cat was that recently ? may I ask if you can recall what the $ rate was? Liketravel I recently sailed on QV and bought on board credit at $1.87/£. Phone cunard at Southampton, option 5 then option 2 and pay by credit of debit card. As already said £53 buys $100 or multiples therof. I bought $1000 to pay for trips as well as the normal refreshments available:D
