nativetexan Posted June 12, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2009 We'll arrive in Anchorage very late on Friday, July 3 and will just have that Saturday in Anchorage. I'm hoping for some interesting activities since it's the 50th anniversary of their statehood. I've looked on the web but can any locals make a recommendation of what will/won't be open? Any suggestions for must see? Thanks in advance!!
AkSusan Posted June 12, 2009 #2 Share Posted June 12, 2009 We'll arrive in Anchorage very late on Friday, July 3 and will just have that Saturday in Anchorage. I'm hoping for some interesting activities since it's the 50th anniversary of their statehood. I've looked on the web but can any locals make a recommendation of what will/won't be open? Any suggestions for must see? Thanks in advance!! Not much going on the 4th. Here's the link to the events http://www.anchorage.net/events.html?eventid=20537 Last I knew no planned legal fireworks display either. They are actually illegal in town but you couldn't tell that by the amount of fireworks that go off in my neighborhood. Actually the big to do for the 50th anniversary was the beginning of January, so nothing more planned for that. Nothing comes to mind of being closed. It will just be another Saturday here in Anchorage. We have a very nice Weekend Market http://www.anchoragemarkets.com/main.html, our Museum just opened after a major expansion http://www.anchoragemuseum.org/ and the Alaska Native Heritage Center http://www.alaskanative.net/ Susan in Anchorage :)
PennyAgain Posted June 12, 2009 #3 Share Posted June 12, 2009 When we had youngsters at home we used to try to set off fireworks on the 4th of July. Too much light. We could never seen them. We learned to say our fireworks party for winter time.
