NCL Cancelled My Cruise,4 Days Before Departure!

:mad:almost had a heart attack when i logged in last night to reprint my edocs...no cruise ressie to be found!

After hours, my TA was closed:eek:, called NCL & got the run around...got the talk to your TA, etc. we can't help you.

Went back to credit card company to verify that all payments were made before final payment back in April...yep, fully paid end of March:confused:

Called again & got a more responsive peep in NCL's TA support department. I was on hold for over an hour while they investigated, they agreed i had made all payments & yet insisted the TA had cancelled. However, they did promise to make it right for us so we could sail this Saturday; still a most restless night in my neighborhood let me tell you.

I called TA in am 1st thing (who is one of the larger discount agencies), they insisted they never cancelled the ressie & said they'd work it out.

Mid day received call from TA, with NCL on hold...they finally admited to cancelling the ressie by mistake when i cancelled an excursion with their Shore Department this weekend...just a slip on the keypad i was told, no harm no foul. Wrong!!!!

They thought i'd be happy with their offer of a 'replacement' cabin under the disco...um, no!!! I really wanted the cabin i originally booked...so sad, too bad, it's been upsold:mad:

Turns out only 4 minisuites left, no true suites to offer (or so they say:rolleyes:)

TA negotiated for upgrade from AG to AF (big whoop), $250 OBC & dinner in specialty restuarant.

Im still apprehensive & think it's a little too little too late. Ive never heard of such a thing before, nor did anybody i spoke to @ NCL or @ TA agency. Have a sinking feeling we're going to show up on Saturday & hear there's another problem.

Just imagine if i hadn't rechecked my ressie! This is so totally unacceptable i just want to scream, thanx for the vent; now i guess i should do the packing i put on hold until this was sorted out.

46 cruises and I've never heard of this either. Sorry to see such a headache just before our cruise. You look so forward to it then that happens. Ouch. I've had a couple situations. One was when we went to our cabin there were people already in it. Turns out they were in the wrong room. Another time we got a call the night before our cruise that it was cancelled. The Dawn got hit by a rogue wave. But yours is different. I'm sure you'll still have a good time. Just make a little noise and see what else they can do for you.

Wow, I can't imagine what that night must have felt like!

Still, mistakes happen, and they appear to have done what they could to make amends. You're still sailing, and you have an upgrade, a free meal, and a $250 OBC. I think you can relax now and count this one as a bad thing that turned into a great thing. Yes, it's a VERY good thing that you checked - and you did, so HURRAY!! Now get back to being excited about your trip - the trip that is now in an upgraded cabin with a free meal and an OBC!! :)

When we arrived at our B&B in New Orleans for our honeymoon, they told us that they had no reservation for us and while they could provide us with a room that night, they were completely booked for the rest of the week. I showed them my confirmation number and the name of the fellow who had done the booking - and who had apparently been fired in the meantime for incompetence. They put is in the only room available - a suite - and when we went for breakfast in the morning they found that we did have a reservation, it had just been for the wrong day - meaning we were one of the rooms that was booked up for the rest of the week. We got to keep the suite. :) We were also on a tour bus that got rear ended by a semi on that trip... and came home with a police report and an exciting story to tell.

Mistakes get made and accidents happen. This error has turned out in your favour as far as I can see... enjoy it!! :)

Something similar happened to us on Celebrity a few years ago. our documents never arrived (this was before the days of being able to view reservations or print docs on the Web). We called Celebrity and found that our booking had been cancelled in error. We were flying from NJ to Vancouver to pick up the ship, so expensive airline tickets were also involved.

Neither our original cabin nor anything in the same category was available, but we got lucky...they promised to upgrade us to a suite...BUT...they said they could not assign an actual cabin until we got to the pier. Now we got really nervous...we had to fly all the way from Newark to Vancouver with out feeling very secure about actually having a cabin. Fortunately, they had not lied to us...we got our suite, and it became a case of "all's well that ends well." I'm sure your cruise will end that way too!

WOW! I'm so glad you checked your reservation! I cant even imagine what would have happened when you arrived at the ship! :(

As the previous poster said, I'm so glad you got everything worked out, and sounds like they seem to have everything back under control. Please ENJOY your cruise!! And enjoy that first "Drink of the Day" even more now... you have an interesting story to share with your cruise-mates, all with a happy ending :)

So glad you got this resolved.......and hope you can put it behind you and look forward to your cruise with the mindset that you have a few perks awaiting that will be very nice! Honestly, I really appreciate your post in terms of learning something new....I would never think to recheck ressies so close to sailing date! thanks for the post.

OP... I am SOOO glad you diverted disaster in the nick of time. I do fear what would have happened had you just shown up at the dock expecting to board the ship. I do agree with others that you have the issue resolved and to just go on your cruise with a positive attitude and expect to be spoiled and have the time of your life.

don't get me wrong, im still excited for the cruise, just can't shake the sick feeling i get everytime I think of what could've happened:(

will be great to finally relax on Saturday, drinkie poo in hand;)

all in all, i consider myself to be extraordinarly LUCKY I caught this, ha - maybe an omen to visit the casino!

i still can't see any value in NCL touting an complimentary upgrade from an AG (exactly where I wanted to be, next to spa) vs either the 1st AF (under disco) or the room we finally received, not much better located @ elevators/stairs...guess that's splitting hairs @ this point, glad to have a place to lay our heads.

You still seem to be blaming NCL. Isn't your TA the guilty party?

If I understood correctly, this was an NCL error that occurred when an excursion was cancelled, and they admitted fault.

After Coka pointed out how important it is to check reservations, I realized that the B&B incident wasn't the only reservation issue on our honeymoon! My travel agent had booked us a room at a hotel between here and Denver (we rode our motorcycle there and then flew to NOLA), but when I was calling around to check everything before we left, I used the chain's 1-800 number and they told me that no such reservation existed and nothing was available. I assured them that we had a reservation and quoted them my confirmation number and they insisted that it didn't exist. As a result, we ended up riding from Sturgis, S.D. to Cheyanne, Wyoming, arriving at 3am at the first hotel we passed that had a vacancy. We had to be up early enough the next morning (that morning) to make it to Denver in time to catch our plane, so we basically rented the bed for a few hours. When we got home, lo and behold, a charge for the 'nonexistent' hotel reservation showed up on our Visa. Apparently the toll free reservation department did not have access to reservations made directly with the property, so not only did we have a reservation, we were charged for it when we didn't show up!! I straightened it out, but it was a lesson learned. It's just one of the reasons I do all my own bookings now. :)

This thread is a GREAT reminder that mistakes can happen, reservations can be lost or otherwise messed up, and it's important to talk to the right person to get the information you need. :)

Happy Travels Everyone!! :)

I'm glad you got the obc, but I'm sorry you are not happy with your current cabin. Please put this behind you so you can enjoy your cruise. On one of my cruises where things weren't going well, I started looking for the positive things about that cruise. By doing so, it helped change my attitude and now I remember a lot of good things about that cruise.

Should not happen, but stuff happens, everywhere. I have had car rental, hotel and plane reservations "lost" before. We just deal with it.

Not sure why they gave you a $250 OBC and dinner. After all, they did "fix" the problem?

Yes, it was upsetting and I am sorry it happened. Instead of worrying about what could have happened, I would be feeling so great that you uncovered it.

As said above. Go enjoy your cruise. And $250 in free drinks or meals or whatever you use it for.

If the worse negative about your new cabin is that it's "near stairs/elevator" -- every hotel room and ship's cabin I've stayed in has been near one of both of those (I use a wheelchair, and handicap-accessible rooms seem destined to be located there!) --

and except for an occasional "ding" of an elevator tone, I've never had any other noise that came from the area, that was troublesome. I hope that will be your experience too. Have a great cruise!

Well I am glad it all worked out in the end but thank heavens you checked your booking!!!

And I absolutely understand why you are still somewhat annoyed and stressed (after that experience I would be too!) - So I hope all goes really well on this cruise for you.

After the cruise is over (if I were you) I would write to NCL and describe what happened. Mistakes happen but I think this is a REALLY bad one and should be brought to the attention of the "powers that be".

Have a great cruise! After this stress you really deserve it!

Well, I don't know about that --- I always knew that I was supposed to call to confirm you airline reservations so that was exactly what I did prior to boarding my Thanksgiving week cruise -- called and confirmed my flight which went into West Palm Beach and left out of Ft. Lauderdale. When we got off the ship we went right over to the airport where we planned to check our bags and rent a car for the day (since we had a late flight home). When we tried to check our bags they wouldn't take them -- turns out we had NO RESERVATION. They told me I cancelled my reservation on the date that I had called to confirm my reservation. So here I am in a packed Ft. Lauderdale airport the Sunday after Thanksgiving (a huge travel day) with my husband and 3 year old daughter. I used a pay phone (this was in those day when people actually used pay phones) and called my travel agent who luckily for me happened to be in the office. She called the airlines and found out that when the agent confirmed my flight she thought she should "clean up the reservation information" because there were so many flight changes along the way and she wound up deleting my flight. I was hanging on the phone for hours with my agent and the airline before they were able to figure out what had happened. Finally my agent was able to get me on another flight but we had to run through the airport to make check-in and board the flight just in time. I never confirmed my flight reservations again after that (well I do now, over the computer).

Scary, isn't it?

My next cruise is over 5 months out, so I wasn't too concerned when I saw my reservation disappear on NCL's website. I'd been working with the travel agent to change cabins and then change category as well. Apparently NCL preferred to cancel the original reservation and make a new one! So for a couple of days I could only access my "new" reservation by punching in the new booking number. I felt much better when I could see it when I logged in to "My NCL" though.

You know, the airlines are supposed to notify you of flight time changes when they have your email address. But it doesn't always happen. Once in a while when checking you will notice an "illegal" connection time, like 25 minutes between two flights. Or they will change your seat etc. without your knowledge, because they've changed equipment. Keep your eye on it. That doesn't mean you call them. Just check it on your reservation thru the website.

i d probably let the wife handle it..i d be too upset and probably say something id regret..

but, i do think their compensation was fair..

another reason to book thru the cruiseline..:D

lol i just knew somebody would say this;)

Who admitted? NCL, or the TA?

NCL cancelled it in error when shore excursion dept cancelled an excursion...they cancelled the ENTIRE cruise by mistake:eek:

thank you for understanding exactly how i feel:)

I am somewhat puzzled though as to not having any edocs, they tell me it's too late to get them up on web site & that i just need to show up @ the pier with my ressie info (#1 on the website sign in & id) and all will be well?

im confused as to where i will obtain luggage tags though...will the porters have them on hand?

Yes, they'll have luggage tags at the port. Have a great cruise. Sorry you lost your cabin choice. That's a bummer. Just enjoy the $250 and hopefully, you'll love your cabin after all.

It does make sense too about not being able to access edocs. Many folks book last minute and the same procedure of checking in at the port applies to them too.

Bon Voyage
