Blackjack Players Step Inside!

Regarding the 8 card shoes. I am seeing a lot of casinos now putting in "continuous shuffle machines." Although there is still a shoe, but wouldn't you now say that these continuous shuffle machines make it more random. This system only hurts card counters right? If you are playing basic strategy so what? Also, it makes the game go a lot faster.

The main reason they put automatic shufflers in is to speed the game up, not because they are worried about card counters. Since the house has an advantage on every hand, the more hands they play an hour, the more they win.

If you don't count, the automatic shuffler actually helps the player since the house edge is about .03% less with an automatic shuffler than the traditional hand shuffled shoe.

Actually Yo,I have always split 8s. It is just recently at the Seminole Casino that a couple of dealers have suggested that against a 10 splitting may not be the best play. What the heck do I know!!

As far as surrender is concerned, other than Las Vegas I have never run into that option. Certainly not on a ship and not at Hard Rock.

However,I surrender to my wife on a daily basis.:D:D

Then why

the outrage from so many players?

The only place where I have seen the surrender option is in Atlantic City.

Dealer suggestions? Like the Even Money bit??? They are paid by the casino - I wonder why. Hmmmmmmmmm. ;)

Surrender was offered at Foxwoods (Connecticut, a GREAT place to play) in 2003. Can't say if it still is.

Yeah and it is those same dealers that also work the craps table that suggest you make hi low bets. Haha

That's pretty cynical Andy. Those people are paid win or lose. And as we know,in the long run, the casino wins.

Perhaps I am a bit naive, but it has been my experience that the dealers prefer a winning table because winners are much more likely to tip. And that does effect their pocketbook.

Cheers:p

Yes AND No.

Ultimately the dealers work FOR the casino.

The dealers KNOW what the sucker bets are, especially the craps came. And they push for folks to makes those bets.

I do think blackjack is a little different though. The reason being many many more people understand the game and the game is much more slower than the other games. Also, the blackjack dealer is more personal with the player unlike in fast paced games in craps. Yeah, you can be friends with the craps dealers and all, but the discussions are more personal in blackjack. More one on one dialogue. It is because of this a blackjack dealer is more apt to assist a blackjack player.

But I have to agree with AndytheK on this one though. Utimately, the dealers goal is to rake in the money.

It does take a bit of the human element out of the game, the interaction between player and dealer during the shuffle, including the player's "right" to cut the deck. A lot of people like the opportunity to relax for a minute, order a drink, light up a cigarette, or go to the bathroom without missing any or much action.

And I think that some of them have the idea that the shuffler is somehow shuffling in a manner to give the house winning hands.

Interesting and valid points you made here. You should have seen the rage in these folks though. I felt like they were gonna flip out and take over the ship and hold the game ransome until they got what they wanted. LOL

Sorry Yo...I can't count the hands of Blackjack I have played over the years and I have NEVER..repeat NEVER...heard a dealer give a player bad advice.I am not a craps player so I cannot comment on that but I can assure you that if a dealer did give some foolish advice, the rest of the table would go nuts. The Pit Boss would have to deal with 5 or 6 irate customers and he does not want that.

Can you imagine the negative publicity!!!

Well I can tell you about the time when a dealer screwed up and handed some "bad advice" to a player affecting everyone else. I think it is okay for a dealer to offer advice IF the player asks for it.

Once time the dealer was showing a 10 and the player had a hard 16. The player motioned they should hit-this AFTER the player motioned to stay. The player then changed her mind and drew a 3 and stayed on 19. However, the change of the cards ended the dealer with a 21, when IF the player stayed as she wanted to originally the dealer would have busted. There were several people that had a lot of money on the table and since the dealer tried to "help out" he ended up ticking off a lot of people. I wanted to put my fist through the table but didn't want to get thrown out of the casino. :D

Whoa Yo(that rhymes:))

You need to get a grip.."I wanted to put my fist through the table"

I thought we were talking about dealers giving players BAD advice in order to enhance casino winnings.

In your scenario the dealer actually gave the player proper advice....Don't you always hit a 16 vs. a 10? Your loss was a result of bad luck not the dealer.

What if the dealer had not offered advice and the player did not hit and by luck the dealer ended with a 21 ? Would you be ranting about the stupid player at the table?

My point was that I have never heard a dealer give BAD advice.

Cheers....long weekend ahead!!

Nope. No grip needed.

The point I was making is the dealer should not be giving ANY advice period, UNLESS the player asks for it.

Lighten up, Francis. :D

I think that the dealers will try and convince new players to take the even money for one reason, No complaining after. A rookie will whine if they don't take even money and the deal flips BJ for a push. However most rookies won't complain when they are picking up the chips.

Me personally I only will take even money if I have a huge bet out there compared to what I had been betting. For example, I am betting $5 a hand and for some stupid reason decide to throw out $50 for 1 hand. If I am given the option I may take even money just because of the large amount I could win as opposed to what I am normally betting a hand. I am aware it isn't the smartest or mathematically correct thing to do but I am not playing to pay the mortgage so I can do a foolish thing or two from time to time.

So anyone here splitting Tens? :D

One time at "Slots of Fun" in Vegas, I had some good (I thiught) conversations with fellow players. I looked down, and was splitting Queens! Put my chips in my pocket and said Goddnite!

Lessons learned:

If yo can't see your cards......quit

If you can't count to 20...........quit

If you think about splitting 20..............quit

If you're used to light beer, do NOT drink Heinekin all night!:p

The 2 I her people snicker at me are.

I will not split 8' with the dealer 10 or A

And I don't hit soft 18 on dealer's 10

Most of the people who do the dumbest things have never played blackjack at landbased casinos (or done so extremely rarely). They are on the ship to have fun, so if someone explains what splitting pairs is, they split pairs even tens, much the same as they will try something new off the dinner menu that they would never order at a restaurant at home.

What they do doesn't affect me. In fact, the more they play poorly, and lose, the more money the casino makes overall and the less likely the casino will put in even more restrictive rules than they have now (6-5 blackjack payoff for example).

What line?:(

Hello! Looks like we have a lot of bed hiders here. What is up with that? LOL!

BBQ Lover-Looks like you make one great rack of ribs. Yummy!

Anyway-I never understood why anyone would take even money. The same way as why anyone takes insurance, or surrenders their hand (if available).

Three sucker bets in blackjack in my opinion.

Yes, mathematically sucker bets!:(

As for insurance, if anyone says anything negative, I just say "I came to gambel!". That usually shuts them up and gets a smile from the dealer.

Even Henry agrees that you should ALWAYS split eights. Read more about why here. Then crawl back under the desk.

UNCLE!!!

EVEN HENRY? Whose Henry? Is he such a poor player that if EVEN HE agrees, it must be right? Can Xmillion Frenchmen be wrong?

Too many questions for me..... need another drink.:p

AFAIK only some of the Vegas casinos - I ran across it at Mirage and Venezia. I haven't heard that any of the cruise lines have tried this hard to fleece the players. Certainly not Carnival or RCL as of nine months or so ago.

By the way - only the 6-5 tables offered Surrender... on the 3-2 tables (casinos had both) it is dropped.

And if casinos knew how much MORE money they would make by serving players free drinks. HAHAHA!
