Princess Ship Casinos - Craps Odds

I'm going to be teaching craps to DW so we can do it together on our upcoming cruise. It's very important to her that she know in advance exactly what to expect.

Princess web site states they have "Single Odds" at the crap tables. Do they in fact allow "Full" odds? In other words, for a $5 Pass bet if a 5 or 9 is the point, can you put $6 behind the line? ($30 behind a green). Or must you always make Pass bets in even numbers to begin with, so that when a 5 or 9 comes up as the point, you can get the right odds?

Most casinos allow this, but some do not. Maybe someone has recently played at a Princess crap table.

TIA

Hey there! I was on Princess last year. I of course was playing the don't 24/7/365. From what I remember it was single odds based on your original pass line/don't pass line bet. That being if you placed a 10 dollar line bet, you could only max out your odds at 10 dollars. I am pretty sure they did have 2X odds on a couple of nights as well but can be confusing with another line.

The real interesting thing about this particular cruise is my playing confused the heck out of the dealers. They got messed up trying to pay me. I tried to assist them. For example when a 7 rolled when the 9 was a point they ended up trying to pay me 1:2 which was wrong. I was supposed to be paid 2:3. It happened more than once and the boxman started getting flustered and snapped at me saying he will handle it and not to worry about getting paid. The dealers were flustered as well. But, that isn't my problem. They should know how the game works. The funny thing is that on at least three occasions after that they paid me wrong in my favor. Instead of paying me 5:6 after sevening out on a 8, they paid me 6:5. O WELL! I was told by the boxman to butt out. So what was I supposed to do? They were all real (enter adjective) that night and for the rest of the cruise. They never got a tip from me. I think their attitude was inappropriate. The first and only time I got negativity from the dealers because I was playing wrong. I think they were just annoyed that I had so many bets on the dark side up on the table it was confusing everyone. But, as I said before, so what?

Hey Yo,

You know I love your stories and anecdotes. Thanks for the comeback. But on this thread I'm interested really in pinpoint info, so I know how to teach DW. As the "class" goes on, I might be able to get her comfortable with alternatives, but at first we have to KISS. We will be using real dice, real chpis, and a real latyout (card table sized) to give her the feel of the real thing, better than any compiter casino will give.

I hear ya bro. The KISS way to playing craps is indeed the pass line with odds. It is an easy

bet and anyone can do it. Maybe toss a bet or two in the field for hahas and fun. Oh next time title a thread like this with "Stay out Yo" LOL good luck

The only bad thing is this boat looks just like that river boat in one of those Porky's movies. Maybe I'll get lucky. Haha cya back here.

I have a cute story about craps. I usually just play the slots.......$0.45 - $0.50 a push, nothing big. Went on a cruise with my BIL & SIL who play craps exclusively. Told me to get $50 in $5 chips.... ok.. but how do I only bet $0.50? They said don't worry about it just do as you are told. So I came back to the table with 10 $5 chips. BIL said put 1 down on the line.....what????? that's $5... I only bet $0.50!!! He said, put it down.. I did... my SIL started clapping & yelling... 7 11 7 11 711... Yeaaaaaah!!! and they gave me more chips. Didn't have a clue what happened, but I got more $5 chips.. Cool.... now my BIL told me to put a chip down on the line & one behind the line....WHAT??? That's $10.... he said shut up & do as you are told...I did.. my SIL started clapping & yelling... 7 11 7 11 711... Yeaaaah!!! and they gave me more chips. Didn't have a clue what happened, but again I got more $5 chips.. Cool....at one point, I had to put down $11...not sure why....after about 20 minutes I was up $250..... I put my original $50 away & played on the $200 for the rest of the cruise.... still not sure what was happening, but it was fun... lol.

That's awesome. You were playing simple and smart pass line bets with odds. The reason for the 5 dollar bets each time was because of the table minimum. You were playing with people who knew what they were doing. Nicely done.

As YO and Andy says, KISS is your friend when starting out, the main thing though is to make sure she is having fun doing it.

As I said in another thread, the first time a lot of these dealers see a craps game is when they get on board the ship, they are taught by the floor people the majority of whom were dealers on the ship at one point.

While this works for easy games like blackjack, crap and roulette you just can't do this with, roulette however being the main game in Europe isn't an issue on the ships, craps can be, as you say, if the payout is in your advantage and the floor/box does not want to fix it, oh well, shame on the casino manager for not teaching his/her staff correctly.

Now as a funny, I used to sail on the Holiday when it was based in LA on the third trip I was playing craps, the dealer was having a hard time, fortunately the lady that was running the craps game knew her stuff and was very good in the way she corrected the dealer. As my night came to a close I told the dealer that have to show him how to deal craps for an hour, this got the expected result of laughter from the dealer (I can imagine the conversation that night in his cabin) :D

The next day we docked at Avalon, I rushed ashore and bought a white shirt, that night I I showed up around 10pm in my black and whites, the floor lady started laughing (she knew what i did for a living), points at me and says take the stick, after 20 minutes on the stick with the dealer shadowing me) I moved over to 3rd base, by the end of my 40 minutes there I had 10 players on my end and 3 were on the other.

Needless to say the casino manager was not very amused with the floor for letting me do it (hey it was fun) but I did explain what I did for a livng and how I wanted to do an audition, he took it well and we agreed that the floor would not get in trouble as long as the next day in Ensanada while the passengers were off doing their thing I ran a 2 hour class on the tricks of the game when dealing it. One part of my job that I really used to enjoy was teaching dealers games, so spending 2 hours teaching was fun for me.

A Lloyd Lindsey Young greeting to you Yo Eleven: You must play your game regardless of what other players or the dealers think. A good player will know his bets and what he should receive if he wins.

If the dealers have a bad attitude then they shouldn't get a tip. I have walked out of more than a few casinos because of the dealers. I quickly found another one to play in. I've played right, and I've played wrong, I've even played both at the same time. Sometimes dealers get flustered. No one should take it out on someone else though.

I will be cruising on the Island Princess in early December and am wondering what the minimum bet is for the craps table. I'm not a terribly experienced gambler, but I do love playing craps! Thanks for any assistance!

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO cowboy girl: For a pass line bet or don't pass line bet the minimum is $5. This also applies to Come/Don't Come bets. They may have it less on the first day/night. Then again they might not also. I am not 100% sure if Princess has single or double odds. The bets at the middle of the table, Prop bets, the minimum is $1.

Keep playing and don't become intimidated by the layout. If you play as often as you can and your budget allows you will gain experience.
