Boat tours: either of Historic or under bridges will be fine. Especially since you will do Djurgården on your own later.

Transport from airport to hotel:

A taxi would cost a little over 60 US dollars, the airport express train would cost about half compared to taxi according to current price list.

Add about 15 dollars if you want to take taxi from the railway station to the hotel.

As for Vaxholm, Strömmas classic ships does not have trips to Vaxholm on weekdays in May.

The Cinderella boats will probably have connections but no timetable is available at the moment.

However, Waxholmsbolaget WILL have connections but the time table for May is not available yet

These boats are not bookable. You just show up 15-20 min before the boat leaves.

Tickets are usually bought on-board and the ticket price is 50 SEK one way for you (reduced price),

Cinderella boats website: http://www.stromma.se/en/Skargard/Cinderella-Boats/

Waxholmsbolaget website; http://www.waxholmsbolaget.com/visitor/resa/resmal/vaxholm/

For the return trip, no time table are available yet.

Whats your feelings about the location of this B&B

Drottning Victorias Örlogshem B&B located at

The location is ideal apart from the fact it is next to Wallmans' nightclub.

jmmcurdy, you want to specifically ask for a room on a higher floor to the rear of the hotel so as to avoid noise from the nightclub, this is what we've done. Apart from this the hotel location is good, also also reviews.

Just wanted to provide some feedback. We had an amazing time in Bjorkliden and thoroughly enjoyed our time in Stockholm. Collector's Lady Hamilton Hotel was wonderful. Immaculate, well located (in the heart of Gamla Stan) with a delightful, friendly, helpful staff. I would definitely stay there again!

We took the ferry to the Vasa Museum and walked around the island. the Vasa museum was a great suggestion. We went to Skansen, without a small child, it really wasn't terribly interesting. Thank you for all your help!

Hello! We are 8 adults docking at Frihamnen with the Serenade of the Seas on June 17th.

We want to do Vasa, Skansen, Ice Bar, and Gamla Stan. We are in Stockholm overnight so there is no rush back to the ship.

What's the best way to get to Vasa? Should we just keep it simple and take 2 cabs? Do they have cab vans that can hold 8 people?

We are not opposed to the bus, but would prefer not to have to find the bus stop and wait for the right bus.

I understand the HoHo boat does not go to Frihamnen, correct?

Thanks!

Taxi Kurir have cab vans that can accommodate 8 persons.

http://www.taxikurir.se/tjansterochprodukter/storbil.4.1300a18510bea4a552380007477.html

Taxi 020 also has vans capable of accommodate 8 people.

http://www.taxi020.se/boka-taxi-020/

Taxi Stockholm's vans only seats a maximum of 7 people according to their website.

It's correct that there isn't any hoho boats at Frihamnen but there is a harbour boatbus called

Sjövägen but tickets have to be bought before you go on board the boat.

I've downloaded the APP mentioned but have not used it. Just want to share some information I got from the App...

1. At moment, it can only be used to purchase single use tickets. Also, you cannot buy a ticket now and activate later.

2. There is a 9SEK fee per invoice when you purchase tickets.

Our family group of 6 will be tendered into Nynashamn on May 11 from the Regal Princess. As I am planning the trip, I need to make a decision whether to do Stockholm on our own or join the tour group. The Regal Princess will be at Nynasham from 7 am until 6 pm. Because of the distance from Nynashamn and Stockholm, precious time will be devoted to traveling back and forth.

From my research, I found that we can take the commuter train to Stockholm from the Nynashamn station. To do this, we can take the shuttle from the pier to the train station at 30 SEK per person. If we do not take the shuttle, this will be a 15 minute walk to the station. Then, buy a 24 hour travel card at the kiosk near the station for 115 SEK. The train ride will be appoximately 1 hour.

The train makes 2 trips each hour:

From Nynäshamn: 20 and 50 minutes past every hour.

From Stockholm: 4 and 34 minutes past every hour.

From the Centralen station in Stockholm, I will have to take a bus going to the Vasa Museum. This will take probably around 15 minutes.

How much time should I allot in the Vasa Museum? Since its not possible to book or buy tickets in advanced, I'd like to get an idea how long the lines could be at the Vasa? I have read somewhere that it is possible for them to close the line and ask people to come back in the afternoon if there are too much people. Since we will be there on May 11, is this considered a peak period for the museum?

From the Vasa, we will take the bus back to the Gamla Stan. We will be spending time to walk around and have lunch there. How far is the Gamla Stan to the train station? If I aim to take the 3:04 or 3:34 train back to Nynasham, will my plan be doable?

I can see that there are so many advise in this discussion and would appreciate inputs so I can make a decision whether to do this by ourselves or just join the tour. Economically, the DIY would be a lot of savings, esp since the 2 kids do not need to pay entrance at the Vasa. Plus the tickets for the travel is reduced to just 70 SEK.

thanks in advance.

Regarding Vasa, May 11th is a Monday so I think that it will be primarily cruise ships visitors at Vasa but not so much peak for "regular" tourists.

There will be two other ships in port, Saga Sapphire and Celebrity Silhouette, the latter aren't expected to be in port until 9am so perhaps you have a good chance at

getting to Vasa before CS's passengers do.

I had a quick look at the journeyplanner, you should be able to catch the 07.50 train to Stockholm which would get you to Vasa by approx 09.10am in the best case.

http://sl.se/sharelink/?q=%2FTravel%2FSearchTravelById%2FNyn%C3%A4shamns%20station%20(Nyn%C3%A4shamn)%2FNordiska%20museet_Vasamuseet%20(Stockholm)%2F9720%2F1408%2F2015-02-23%252007_50%2Fdepart%2Fsv%2Fnull%2Fnull%2F2%2C8%2C1%2C4%2C96%2C%2Fnull%2Fnull%2Fnull%2Fnull%2Fnull%2Fnull%2Fnull%2F0%2F1%2Fnull

The tram and buses are very frequent so if you are unable to catch the 9am tram, a bus or tram will depart within less then 10 minutes.

The time required for Vasa is mostly down to yourselves. One hour is minimum but you could easily spend 2-3 hours there.

But let's say two hours which should leave you with plenty of time to explore Gamla Stan.

I don't know why I didn't get notified of this post! I'm subscribed to this thread - I'm so happy I checked it again! I'm so excited for this game! Thank you for checking on it for me :)

The next question is, do you know where I could buy tickets??

Schedule have been released now:

http://svenskfotboll.se/allsvenskan/spelprogram/

There is one game in Stockholm during your stay:

http://svenskfotboll.se/allsvenskan/match/?scr=result&fmid=2939005

Easiest way of getting there is to take the subway Green line #19 (towards Hagsätra) to Globen subway-station.

Find departure times at: http://sl.se/en/

There are allot of useful information even if allot of it also is repeats of older question, or information that no longer is valid.

I am not sure, the only thing I know is that they will be released next Thursday (12 Feb).

However keep an eye out on http://dif.se/ and there should probably be info available within a couple of days.

I'm a very-little traveled visitor arriving with 80-year-old mom at the Stockholm airport after a 19.5-hour day of travel/flying/layovers. We arrive at about 6 pm on May 29 and will need to get to our hotel with our luggage (just two 22-inch rollers total).

I don't think I'd like to get Mom on the public transit--what can I expect in finding a taxi at the airport? Rough cost? Will my lack of Swedish be a problem in making this happen easily? In Amsterdam I found lots of English speakers--and, while I know it's pretty ethnocentric of me, I appreciated that after the dullness induced by multi-hour flights.

Will there be an ATM right at the airport near luggage pick up to get cash or do the taxis take credit cards?

Any suggestions for a hotel (with breakfast option the next morning) so we can sleep and get our schedules back a bit? We'd be embarking on the afternoon of May 30 at Stadsgarden (according to the current report) for the Viking Star. What can we expect to pay for transport from most area hotels to Stadsgarden?

Any taxi or other "scams" to watch out for?

Mahalo nui loa!

All Stockholm taxi companies will have a fixed price from the airport to any city hotel. Stockholm is a city where you should use the main taxi companies of Taxi Stockholm, Taxi 020 or Taxi Kurir. I am not sure if the airport still has 2 lines or not.

You just want to avoid any private driver or most smaller companies.

You can see the symbols from each company on their websites. This becomes important as many of the 'independent' drivers try to copy these companies somewhat.

You can pay easily with credit cards in Stockholm.

Taxi Stockholm is currently 520 SEK or $62 fixed price to the city center

http://www.taxistockholm.se/en/Taxi-Stockholm-Services/Arlanda/

Taxi Kurir has a current fixed price of 470 SEK or $56 to the city from the airport.

Taxi 020 has an app in English, but also easy for hotel to arrange.

http://www.taxi020.se/in-english/

Most hotels will be breakfast inclusive or have an add on rate. Breakfasts at Swedish hotels are usually quite good and a major benefit if included.

There are numerous quality hotels in mid to upper price range. Standards are typically very high.

Ukalady don't worry about your language skill, Sweden like the other Nordic countries and the Netherlands have a very high English proficiency among its population.

So that shouldn't be a problem.

For credit cards see these threads:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2161382

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2160338

There are also ATMs at the airport but I don't know if there are any close to the arrival exit.

As for hotels see this threads:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=44572690&highlight=hotel#post44572690

A common hotel for cruisers that starts/ends their cruise in Stockholm seems to be Sheraton Hotel.

Taxi cost from hotel to ship would be around 200SEK which is about $24.

Ukalady, as Desdichado says, there will hardly be any problem with the language.

But DO take care to take a decent taxi as Swedish taxi prices are not regulated. All taxis have a yellow decal at the rear door window with lots of small text/numbers and one comparison price in big bold letters . For a decent taxi that price should be somewhere around 325 kr. If that number is much higher, don't step into that taxi!

See this link for a sample who the decal looks like (top, to the right):

I live in Stockholm and love all the cruiseships that are comming here all the summer.

Do you need any information about the town or transportation, just ask and I will try to answer....

Hi,

hope you can help. We'll be docking Stockholm with Celebrity Silhouette on May 27th and leaving for Arlanda on the following morning. Do you know which cruise port Celebrity usually uses and do you have any recommendations for transfers to Arlanda - there are two of us with 3 large suitcases.

Thanks

I think the most suitable transport option would be a taxi (see Thule's post above).

Hi there,

We will be arriving Nynäshamn on June 2nd. The transfer offers by Cruise line cost about $70. I understand taking a train would be an alternative option.

Could you please kindly elaborate the details on taking a train from/to Nyashamn & Stockholm for us?

Are the directions easy to follow? Do we need to get off from any station to get to Stockholm?

A million thanks! :)

I don't know about directions, fellow cruisers who have docked in Nynäshamn can probably answers that.

The train goes all the way to Stockholm central station.

Be aware that tickets are bought from a ticket machine so you will need a chip & pin credit card or you can use the official SL ticket app which is simpler but more expensive then buying tickets from the machine.

Correction to my post above regarding tickets costs.

A single ticket bought via the app or from the ticket machine costs 72 SEK which is about 8.6 US dollars. Reduced price is 40 SEK which is about 4.8 US dollars.

People that is 19 years old or young and for people aged 65 and older are entitled to reduced price but you will need to able to verify your aged if asked.

---

Those of you who are interested in purchasing a 24 or 72 hour travel card can do that directly from the SL website:

https://sl.se/sv/kop-biljett/#/periodbiljett

Click köp once for each card you want to add. So if you want to buy two 24 hour travel cards, click köp twice.

For those who are entitled to a reduced price, select reducerat pris from the drop down menu.

All travel cards are also valid for Djurgårdsfärjan.
