Slot Players Step Inside!

Yo Eleven

Recommended Posts

Hey there! I thought it was time to extend our casino series and include a thread dedicated to slot players. There seems to be a lot of slot players on this forum as there are several threads scattered on the entire site. Since we now have a casino section it is only proper to have a thread in addition to the others we have made dedicated to certain casino games.

This thread is designed to talk about anything related to slot machines. Chime in as you please.

I'll start.....

I do play them from time to time and I have my own "strategy." It seems to work well at times but there really is no such thing as strategy in slots though. What I do is I pick a slot machine. Put in some money and my goal is to get a profit no matter how much it is. Usually a minimum of 5 dollars and get out. Then I find another slot machine. Play until I get a profit and move on to the next. I do find from time to time I end up with a big single payoff after a few spins and then move on to the next one again. Lather, rinse, repeat if you will. The interesting thing about this is sometime when I "hop" slot machines the previous player has left credits in the machine. They forget to take their winnings and they become mine! Finders keepers, losers weepers. HAHAHA! That is my story and I'm sticking to it! :D

First and foremost, thanks Yo fir the new thread - I'm sure you'll get lots of participation.

As for me, I haven't played slots in years. since they changed from the true One Armed Bandits to machines where you don't even have an arm to pull.

But, as the French say, "Chacun a son gout." Whatever floats your boat.

Oh - I will say that looking at the players attached to the machines by lanyards on their cruise card gives me an eerie feeling of tubes connecting to life support machines.

Hey Andy-you prefer this machine over the one's they have today?

You must have been something before electricity. BAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

I hope Rodney doesn't show up in the formal dining room on your next cruise. It might go like this. HAHAHAHA! :D

hi there,

i love the slot machines, bet not many people will admit to that!

i tend to find a machine that i like and head for that most nights, it has to have some form of entertainment value though i will not sit there just pushing a button like a zombie all night..lol.. i have been fairly lucky this last cruise and won over a thousand £'s in the casino on pando ventura in a 14 night cruise. we actually paid off our on board account and came back with the same money that we went with..:D happy days! not saying it will always work that way, but i know the limits and stick to them no matter what..

I love love love slot machines. Several years ago we were on a Princess ship and on a dollar machine I won $8,000 and while I was waiting to be paid from the attendant I put money back in and won $4,000 on the same machine. I'm afraid that hooked me and of course I have never been that lucky again but it does show that someone has to win. I had to pay lots of taxes on the money but it was worth it......I am going on the Carnival Freedom in October. Anyone know anything about those machines....

that is a good question (I mean in general)... how much should you tip an attendant when they cash you out on a win? I won $1200 on a machine, and I tipped the attendant, although now I cannot remember how much. It did not seem like much though, $20 -$40 I think. First time with a win that needed cashing out, was I a cheapskate?

I have played that one. And it is totally fun. I enjoy those slots where things move and seem to give you more chances to win.

Ok ya'll might think I'm a cheapo, but I was thinking while reading this thread... When I spend two thousand in the casino and don't win a thing, I don't have anyone feeling sorry for me and handing me money because I lost, so why do we feel like we have to tip if we finally win $ 1000.00 after losing about $20,000 ? I know it doesn't sound good, but it does make sense.:cool: I have lost so much money in the casino's it makes me sick. Ok I know I should quit going, but I am hooked and I love it. :o

I'm with unklez on this one. Don't feel obligated to tip a hand pay. Many people do not tip a hand pay. Don't sweat it.

Thank ya'll... That makes me feel good that others agree. I mean I did win $1,000 once and I did give $ 20.00 tip, but I think that is good enough. ;):p

That was very generous, BUT not required.

It all depends on the attitude. If they offer you a smile and you feel they work hard at their job, then fine tip them. If you simply aren't in the tipping mood, then don't do it. Nobody is going to yell at you for not tipping a hand pay.

Tipping is another difficult issue for many slot players, and many people are unsure how much to tip the attendant that brings the winnings. For jackpots that require a hand payout, the customary tip is one half of one percent of the jackpot.

Here is another link. Pay close attention to the part where you did win a jackpot but lost money before you hit the jackpot.

When several attendants at each club come by more than once in an attempt to be friendly, it can be a time-consuming process, not to mention expensive if you actually hit a royal. I generally politely, but firmly, let the attendants know that I need to concentrate on the game, and that I am already down $5,000 in the past week. Even if I hit a $4,000 royal, I can be easily forgiven for not toking, or at least not toking very big, if they think I am still losing.

Another good thread. I enjoy the slots as a time killer. The trick is to find the machines that are the 'draw' in the casino. Back to 'the good ol' days'.

They have removed some of my favorites. Gold Mine, Cherry Pie and others that gradually build up to a payoff. My first trip to the casino was to find and chart a route to these machines. Would get to the casino when it opened and walk the route. Amazing how many machines were left very close to a payoff from the night before. Was always able to pick up a few bucks on them. I do like the machines with all the bells, whistles and spinny things but then, I am easy to amuse. Harry

what's with all this "tipping business", they should be grateful that we delight them with our presence in their casino..lol;)

okay i'll admit i'm a tight fisted brit and we don't do tipping like the american's:D, but we are still learning!

I do have to agree with the American tipping frenzy. Particularly in casinos. Tips in the casino are shared by all employees in a collective pot. Try visualizing there lives. Get up, get ready and stand at the table for your shift. Being pleasant to all, smiling, etc. To them, it's just a low paying job to keep us happy. Sorta like putting Tide in washing machines.

I tip when I'm done playing at that time. With Blackjack, I will get the attention of the pit boss, put my tip down (not as a bet to be played for) and tell the boss that 'this is for the team'. Goes right into the box. After the first night at sea, you might be surprised at the attitude the next time you walk in. Does not cost much and the rewards can be good if only regarding the casino employees. A better experience for them and for you. Harry:cool:
