ChaylaT Posted July 19, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 19, 2009 HI, My family and I just got off the Splendor today and it was our first cruise! SO much fun!!! Best vacation ever! I will write a huge review in the next week. We had adjoining cabins 8421 & 8417 with balconies. No trouble with noise. Did NOT use Camp Carnival although my 3 young kids came with us and we did not use the casino. Just have to say that I disagree with all the negative reviews as I had NO problems with smoking, drunken people, the pink decor , service or food. If you treat people nicely, you will be treated with respect as well. Also if someone starts to complain nearby, walk away! Our vacation mantra is if something goes wrong, always have a good time anyway. Was it perfect, no, but was it FUN? YES!!!! We are already planning a cruise on the Dream! Cannot wait!!:D

Heavy T Posted July 19, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 19, 2009 Great to hear you loved it!! Why did your kids not use the Camp Carnival? What dinner seating did you have? What did you do after 10PM with your kids? Love your mantra!!!

ChaylaT Posted July 20, 2009 Author #6 Share Posted July 20, 2009 HI, My kids just don't like doing things apart from us. We swam, went on the water slide, and basically just hung out with them. Ate many ice cream cones together! :) My In-laws watched them a few nights so we could eat at the Pinnacle and see the Piano Bar. Other than that we were pretty tuckered out from getting up early and being in the sun all day. Our dinner was at the Black Pearl, 6 PM seating. Great intimate room!! I am just learning to live again without the fabulous cruise staff and wonderful food so I will write more soon~
jayesouthworth Posted July 20, 2009 #7 Share Posted July 20, 2009 DH and I just booked today for January 24, 2010. We've been on Spirit, Pride, Elation, Princess so we are not new to cruising. So....now the 6 month wait... I look forward to your review.

Cannot wait!!:D ChaylaT- We are sailing on the Splendor August 9th;) I was wondering what time you docked in Matzalan? I am trying to plan an excursion and am trying to do the local/ship time conversion... looking at an excursion that meets at 9:30 local time... ship arrives at 9 (I know they often get there earlier) but is that local time or ship time??? I look forward to seeing your review!
ChaylaT Posted July 21, 2009 Author #10 Share Posted July 21, 2009 You push the clocks forward one hour before then so you will be on both ship time and port time. We got in early about 8:45-9 AM. If you book an excursion with Carnival you will get there in time. I am suffering MAJOR land sickness (dizziness, vertigo, nausea, headaches) and have not been able to finish my review as it is going to be rather lengthy.:( I hope to be better soon~
Winterstale Posted July 21, 2009 #11 Share Posted July 21, 2009 I feel your pain, Chayla - my husband and I charter sailboats in the BVI and it takes me about 2-3 days to get my "land legs" back after living on a sailboat for a week!

I am feeling better today, thank goodness. I had an awful migraine yesterday. My daughter has a slight fever and cold and am pondering getting her checked for the flu. Not because of the cruise, really, but a person at my DH's work had the swine flu..UGH. Hope you are felling better! Just takes a few days, I guess!! Ready for another cruise and finally I can focus my eyes to finish my review!:D

I am prob adding to my land sickness... I have been off the boat 4 days now and I suppose it's getting easier everyday. I didn't feel the bed rocking this morning so thats good. Have read a lot it can take 7-10 days so fingers crossed this time next week I can get back to my uni work... :)

The few times I've experienced it I had it for about five days. Actually, I rather enjoy the feeling but it's difficult to explain to the folks in to office why I'm swaying back and forth while I'm standing there talking to 'em!!! :)

Happened for me 2 out the last 3 cruises. Thought it was more toward alcohol withdrawal at the time......lol
logbook Posted July 23, 2009 #17 Share Posted July 23, 2009 That happened to me the first time we cruised. After that, since I take Bonine every day on the ship, I decided to take it for several days after we got off the ship and that helped a lot! Can't wait to see your review!
