Rome in Limo-Secure Booking Questions

Hello!

I am thinking about booking a private tour through Rome in Limo for Naples.

I noticed that the booking site is not secure.

What is the best way to safely get Rome in Limo my credit card info?

I know that one option is to fax the info but I'm not sure where to do this from. I'm pretty sure that my office will frown upon faxing an international document

Any ideas?

If the form needs to be faxed you can do so at any office supply store that has a copy center i.e. OfficeMax, Kinko's.

Will they allow you to call them with the credit card information and then email or fax a confirmation to you?

We just used euros when we got there.....it was easy. If you want to use your cc first, though, it should not be a problem....

I had no problems booking through their internet site, though, and wouldn't be a problem to do so again.

But you have to give them a cc to hold the ressie - they only take cash (euros) or Euro travelers checks for payment on the day of the excursion. The only time your card will be charged is if you don't show.

The Rome in Limo site is not secure. The booking form is not in https format.

We just returned from our cruise to the Mediterranean and used RIL. Wonderful drivers in all 3 stops. I too was worried about the booking ahead of time. I asked my IT person at work & he advised not to use the split email, things can still get interscepted. And with the website as well, it's not RIL that you worry about, it's the hackers in between submission. I opted to fax the cc info, cost me less than $4.00 US dollars. You won't be disappointed if you book with RIL

Have a great trip

Another option, when emailing, faxing, or entering credit card numbers on a non-secure site, is to find out if your CC company will issue one of those one-time, special CC numbers for just that particular transaction. This number would be limited to the amt. you designate and the company you name.

I found out about this option the hard way a few years back, after emailing a CC no. to a company in Grand Cayman. Someone else (not this company, I feel sure) intercepted the email and charged $4K to my card at a Florida casino the same day.

I got it reversed, and my CC company advised me of their option to create a one-use CC number for such situations. Not sure all companies offer this feature, though.

I just noticed while reading reviews that one of the ships ran into a wind issue recently and could not dock in Rome. That in itself is a disappointment, but the poster said many folks with private tours were out money.

I'm booking private tours for our Med cruise this fall, but I'm not guaranteeing anything with a credit card. I've booked with some top name companies that are mentioned often and I guess they work on the honor system because none of them have asked for a credit card guarantee.

Unless a company specifically put in writing that it would not charge you if the ship could not make port, then I would not be willing to make a deposit.

Just my thoughts.

Props to you for catching this. Good reminder to us all to look for the "padlock" symbol when entering secure info. I know that I tend to get rather lax about it.

Great idea! I know that my Bank of America card has this feature.

RIL does not charge you if your ship cannot make port. It's on their website and Jany will confirm it in an email to you if you want. The credit card is for charging those who stand them up!

I'm on the bandwagon too...we didn't have any problems with sending Rome In Limo our credit card number. Then again, most cards these days have 100% online fraud coverage so even if something happened, you wouldn't owe a dime. There is the hassle factor though, so I really like the posters idea of calling the CC co. and getting a one time alternate number to use for the transaction if that gives you greater peace of mind. It works the same as your credit card, just is prearranged so charges can only be applied from a certain co...such as RIL.

It's a stated policy of Rome In Limo's that they don't charge if your ship can't make port for any reason. It's on their website somewhere, but the lady in charge of reservations can add that to your confirmation email if you ask. She was very helpful!

Good luck and have fun for everyone else!
