Im looking for an inexpensive way to enjoy the Bahamas

Booking Excursions through the cruiseline can get pretty expensive for a family of 4. (2 adults and 2 kids ages 11 and 14)

If you have any recommendations on some things that we can do to make the most of our time we would appreciate it. We will be on the NCL-Sky in Nov 2009.

We will be visiting: Grand Bahamas Island, Great Stirrup Cay and Nassau

Im welcoming all suggestions. Weve been to the bahamas before but mainly just walked through Atlantis and sat on the beach. This time we want to make more use of our time.

Thanks

Was there last Sept and will be there this week. Hubby and I took the jitney and it dropped us at the base of the fort.. by Arawak Cay I think. We climbed up the hill to the fort, paid a small entrance fee and toured around. The views were beautiful and we had fun. Walked back down and waited acreoss the street for the jitney. We ended up splitting a cab with another couple that was waiting to return to the ship.

In Freeport - take a shared bus or taxi ($5 pp) to Port Lucaya. Wear your bathing suit under your clothes if you would like to go to the beach. Port Lucaya has a public beach, shops, straw market, restaurants and a casino.

Sit in Count Basie Square, listen to some music, order a takeout

Bahama Mama and some cracked conch and enjoy the Bahamas.

This website gives you a general idea but it hasn't been updated in awhile - http://www.portlucayamarketplace.com

Just back this week...we walked to the end of the pier and guys with pictures of excursions were there selling. We went with two other couples...all around town, fort, staircase, stopped at a small market, then 45 mins at Atlantis...total 2 1/2 hours for $25pp. Yes it was rushed but a lot for the money and a air cond. van.

When he brought us back to town we shopped for a while and went to Senor' Frogs for a bite and a few drinks.
