tv77 Posted August 18, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 18, 2009 We just received a call from the upsell fairy from a BA Aft balcony (10168) to an AA Owner's Suite on the Med cruise for $450 pp. I hesitated to give up the balcony view of the wake, since I've read so many great things about it, but have also read the Owner's Suite is fantastic. We grabbed it, and now we're hoping we made the right decision - any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

ImADaneFan Posted August 18, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 18, 2009 I would have said "Yes" before she finished asking.:D You will get all the suite perks. The best being breakfast and lunch in Cagney's at no charge and you get 3 bottles of liquor and mixers. Plus on the Gem I think you get access to the Courtyard Area. BikerAl Posted August 18, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 18, 2009 I would have said yes for more than that. Be prepared to never want to sail in anything less. Enjoy. Al

tv77 Posted August 18, 2009 Author #7 Share Posted August 18, 2009 I know - I told my DH that he was in trouble now because we'd never be able to sail in anything but a suite again. This is for the 7 night Med cruise, and no, I didn't try and counter. I was so in shock that I got the call, which I missed because I was on a conference call, and I was worried it would be gone by the time I called back. Live and learn, right? :)

tv77 Posted August 18, 2009 Author #10 Share Posted August 18, 2009 It said 3 bottles of liquor in the upsell e-mail, and was mentioned on the phone, along with the mixers. Does anyone Know the brands/types of liquor they offer? Thanks.
downsized Posted August 18, 2009 #11 Share Posted August 18, 2009 Congratulations! We too, were called by the "upsell fairy" and although our upsell from a BA to the OS was $1043, I jumped on it! We went from being excited about our first cruise, to being ecstactic! Three more days! From what I have gathered here on the boards, your "butler" will present you with a list of about 10 different liquors that you can choose three of. cyclecrazy Posted August 18, 2009 #12 Share Posted August 18, 2009 My wife and I have been in the owners suites twice and will be again in November. Yes they give you three bottles of booze. But you must pick them out from a limited menu just after you arrive. I have only got mixers one time. I had to beg for three days. The butler stole it from one of the bars. I would not count on mixers except for coke products. The reserved seats at the show are great. You can show up anytime. also you can get about any food item that is onboard the ship. just ask for it and the butler will find it. The courtyard on the jewel class ships is just ok. We found that two or three families usally hog all of the chairs and pool. It is not very large. And the leftovers from their lunch usally sit on all of the tables for hours. The best time to go up there is when you are at a port. I wish it was for adults only. The kids cause most of the problems. I know that the pool was broken by the kids several times during our cruise.
McDebbie Posted August 18, 2009 #13 Share Posted August 18, 2009 You will love it, I am so happy for you. And this just reinforces my belief that the aft/stern balcony cabins seem to be the ones that get the call, we have twice when originally booked in those cabins. Personally we do love the wake and being in the back of the ship but the OS is hard to beat.

marelind Posted August 19, 2009 #17 Share Posted August 19, 2009 One of the things I like about the Jewel class Owner's Suites is that they have two balconies: one facing the bow and a double width on the side of the ship.

Pianoman6582 Posted August 19, 2009 #19 Share Posted August 19, 2009 We just received a call from the upsell fairy from a BA Aft balcony (10168) to an AA Owner's Suite on the Med cruise for $450 pp. I hesitated to give up the balcony view of the wake, since I've read so many great things about it, but have also read the Owner's Suite is fantastic. We grabbed it, and now we're hoping we made the right decision - any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks! Hi there! My Lee and I were on the NCL Star back in May. We hemmed and hawed about the upgrades... Would a mini-suite be enough? What about the AB that we just ADORED on the Gem? And of course the AC where you can see where you're going! Then there was the AA owner's suite. We went for it and boy, am I glad we did. We've had the aft-facing balcony... The wake was nothing compared to the wonderfulness that awaits you in your owner's suite. -For starters, you get the same privileges the penthouse people get: Breakfast and Lunch at Cagney's YUM-O! In the room... -There are two balconies... let me say that again.... Your Cabin has TWO BALCONIES!: one facing forward, one to the side. -There is an actual dining room... not just a table in the way of everything else. -The bathroom comes with a view... There's a big window looking out onto the side balcony, and a 3-foot circular window (think BIG porthole) out the side. -You'll never complain about too little closet space again! There is a whole DRESSING ROOM with two mirrors, two closets, two safes and a bunch shelves and drawers! - There is a cappuccino machine - There are 3 televisions-- because on your cruise, you'll need to take a bath while watching TV (I kid you not, there is a TV in the Bathroom) - They have the fluffiest bed you'll ever sleep in. There are 100 light switches which it'll take you all cruise to figure out. But it's nice to be able to, for example, turn off the bathroom light with a switch next to your bed.... That may be a slight exaggeration but it's close to reality. They say you're not supposed to go out on the front deck while the ship isn't in port. We did a few times. I think it's a liability thing... No one ever said anything to us, but use your judgment as to whether you go out or not. There's always the side balcony. The side balcony also has a table with chairs for out door dining. Oh man, you made a good choice opting for the upsell! Enjoy your cruise! You'll never want to be in a room less than a penthouse again! And I Thank you JWK: Spoiled by the "Suite Life":D
cyclecrazy Posted August 19, 2009 #20 Share Posted August 19, 2009 Pianoman6582, The owners suite that you are refering to is on deck 10. The owners suites on deck 9 are smaller. The dining room table is in the livingroom and there is no porthole in the bathroom. The bathroom is also a little smaller. But the front deck is larger. You still can't go wrong with the owners suites. I have also found that you can make dinner reservations a hour ahead and they will find you a table. I also like the phone they give you to carry around the boat. Its like a butler hotline.
angeljt Posted August 20, 2009 #21 Share Posted August 20, 2009 You got a good deal on the OS and you'll love it. We've cruised in the OS's 4 times, 3 of which were upsells. The last time was on the Gem and I had booked a stern AE and was tempted not to accept the upsell. They called 3 times, lowering the price each time and I finally broke down and took their final offer. It was great! We've never had a problem getting mixers, but I still bring some things with me if we're not flying. There are plenty of pictures of 10004 here in my webshots album. http://community.webshots.com/user/angeljt Have a great time and enjoy being spoiled! :D Jackie

tv77 Posted August 20, 2009 Author #23 Share Posted August 20, 2009 Jackie, I checked out your pictures as soon as we accepted - it looks unbelieveable! I can't believe they called you back 3 times for the same upsell with lower prices. I was afraid if I said no, they'd call the next person on the list, and we'd miss our chance. I'm so not going to want to get off the ship at the end of the cruise!!!!!
angeljt Posted August 20, 2009 #24 Share Posted August 20, 2009 Tv77, No, you're definitely not going to want to leave the ship or the suite! Lucky you with only 16 more days to go! :D We had Putu for our butler and he was great! Not sure if he's still on the ship though. NCL contacted us on March 4th for the April 5th cruise. They wanted $1200 per person additional!!! No way would I pay that much. You got a good deal and $50 less than we ended up paying per person, so you can be happy about that too! Are you in 10004? Jackie
Redheel Girl Posted August 20, 2009 #25 Share Posted August 20, 2009 Hello Firemaker. The owners Suite is wonderful. We had a up sell on the Pearl in 2007. The room are so beautifully done and the bathroom is to die for. The window over the tub looks out on the side deck and the TV over the Tub is fun. The shower has at least 8 jets spraying from every direction with a glass shower door. The sink area is very large. The dressing room is so great because you have a walk in closet. The dressing table is a useful touch because there are so many drawers in all sizes. You will have two balconeys the one on the front where the bedroom in is very large. You will experience wind when the Ship is moving but you have a second Balcony on the side by the living room which is as long as three regular Balconys. One of the best perks is 3 bottles of Liquor and the use of your Butler who will bring the best Goodies each afternoon. You are not going to want to leave your cabin because it is to die for. Also may I say that Firemaker and I had Aft cabins on the Star on the April repo. The Aft was wonderful because of the view but the Owners Suite is a true suite and believe me having the use of two Balconeys isn't any thing to sneeze at. Quit worrying you will come back saying I made the right decision.
