babyher Posted August 25, 2009 #76 Share Posted August 25, 2009 And remember, if there is no sanitizer, make sure you lick your hands clean instead. :p:D:D I always let my dog lick my hands . I was always told a dogs mouth is cleaner than a humans so I am really clean :) :)
murcielago Posted August 25, 2009 #77 Share Posted August 25, 2009 Why just after? My privates are clean, I wash BEFORE I use the bathroom. Yes, people please wash hands after touching your private parts:rolleyes:
cathyoo Posted August 25, 2009 #78 Share Posted August 25, 2009 Of course I wash my hands after using the bathroom. I don't dry them I let them air dry..just me. but I don't use those tissues to open the door. In fact at my job a lot of people will either use a paper towel or try to open the door with their elbow. I always hold the door open for them. I have never been over concerned about germs. I think this has helped me not to be susceptible to a lot of common illness. I have had the flu once in my life. I rarely get full blown colds or stomach viruses. A little twinge and gone in a day is the general rule. I think so many people especially children are so germ free that their immune system can't fight off the germs that managed to sneak through. J&DrCruisin Posted August 25, 2009 #79 Share Posted August 25, 2009 Talk about disqusting.....Corrections! ! ! ! After working in a prison setting for the past 11 years, I have been forever grateful for the way I was brought up. WASH,WASH,WASH your hands! ! ! ! You can never wash and sanitize enough these days. At work, I try not to touch anything in the common areas without having a pair of gloves on and I always have a bottle of bleach (and hand sanitizer) close at hand. Of course, it makes for an interesting life in the free world because you see so many people doing the worst and acting about the same. Its easy people. Use the restroom (sitting or standing), please wipe(that is what toilet paper is for), if it is not an auto flusher, use your foot to flush, wash hands WITH SOAP and water, take the paper towels and dry and then turn off the faucet and open the door with it before you throw it away. How hard is that???????? Then of course, sanitize. Hot tubs, public pools, and everything else out there......grose.

I have also had the flu only once in my life, and rarely get sick. My kids and husband rarely get sick, either. It's one thing to sanitize your entire home with Lysol daily, and quite another to wash your hands and use a paper towel to open the cootie-ridden door handle in the bathroom. richstan Posted August 25, 2009 #81 Share Posted August 25, 2009 What an eye=opener! I guess I always took it for granted that human beings washed their hands after toileting!
oncruisecontrol Posted August 28, 2009 #82 Share Posted August 28, 2009 Just this past weekend at a local casino I witnessed 5 guys (out of 6) in the men's room, shake, zip and bolt. They were either handling cards, dice or playing slots. You would think that with the threat of H1N1, everyone would at least wash their hands! You would also think there would be a sign at least suggesting that they do so! And, you think having a sign would make a difference?

It's one thing to sanitize your entire home with Lysol daily, and quite another to wash your hands and use a paper towel to open the cootie-ridden door handle in the bathroom. Here's what I don't get.. so you don't touch the cootie ridden door handle. But do you touch the rail on the stairs? The telephone? The next door? Do you think when someone touches the bathroom door all their cooties land there so the next place they touch is cootie free? I wash my hands and that is the end of my worries. Some folks come out of the stall and pull their paper towels before they wash.. cooties on the towel holder. Others wash first and than get a paper towel... now they are getting the cooties from the towel holder... way too much worrying going on for me. I wash my hands and shake them off I don't want you to get my cooties. Cause I got some strong cooties... they will kick butt on any cooties left on that door handle. ;)
Wolfie48 Posted August 28, 2009 #84 Share Posted August 28, 2009 GEESH LADY..DO YOU HAVE TO TOUCH EVERY PIECE OF PASTY? with so much written and spoken about Noro..you would think that everyone would be using the sanitizers..it s no wonder that its so hard to contain once a outbreak occurs. Those sanatizers are not effective against Noro Virus. Wash your hands at every opportunity!
davenew Posted August 28, 2009 #85 Share Posted August 28, 2009 On our cruise last week I saw a little boy claw through the american cheese with his fingers. His parents said nothing. In my many trips to the mens room [i drink beer] I saw men and boys not wash their hands. Come on people take what you touch and wash your hands. Fully agree with your observations - and then they will have the nerve to write a review citing that Salmonella was rife on board. It galls me to see the amount of waste food. It must be git wrenching for the third world staff members who have to clear it away!!
cmecruise1962 Posted August 28, 2009 #86 Share Posted August 28, 2009 I watched a little boy (probably 9 or 10) pick up a sweet roll with the tongs and touch his NOSE with it to determine what it was and then go to set it back on the plate. I just gave him a look and calmly said "Oh no, you don't! You need to put that on your plate now." He sheepishly did...but if I hadn't been there...ewwww! BTW, I wash, wash, wash on the ship...and tell my 14 year old daughter to wash as well. And while I am confident she does after using the restrooms, I don't think she is as obsessed as I am. She has pneumonia now and my co-workers commented that she ALWAYS gets sick when we get back from a cruise...so next time I will try to get her on the wash every time you see running water and use hand sanitizer band wagon, and see if we can BOTH stay healthy!! bobsfamily Posted August 28, 2009 #87 Share Posted August 28, 2009 It's good to wash your hands... don't pick up food from a buffet without tongs.. live your life, not be obsessed with every thing... WOW some OCD people here.
simplelife Posted August 28, 2009 #88 Share Posted August 28, 2009 Amen to that. PLUS, Carnival has put sanitizers around the ship especially around the lido deck food areas. PLEASE PEOPLE USE THEM. On my last cruise, ppl would come from the pool, and go right to the food never stopping in the bathroom to wash their hands nor did they use the sanatizer. I can not afford to get sick on a cruise. I use sanatizer everytime I touch something on a ship including the casino slot machines. even sometimes take a napkin and put sanatizer on it and clean the machine before I use it. Important rules for everyone not only cruisers 1. when coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth with your arm or sleeve or hanky. then sanatize your hands regardless. 2. wash your hands after going to the bathroom, and if you tinkle on the seat, clean it up don't leave it for the next user. then when you are done, sanatize your hands 3. sanatize your hands before going through the buffett lines or any food area on the ship. 4. sanatize your hands whenever you do anything that you feel is not good. IE... changing a baby's diaper. the key is to carry a bottle of sanatizer with you at all times, and use it faithfully. SANITIZE, SANITIZE, WASH, WASH, SANITIZE, SANITIZE. Important reminders, but shouldn't "Wash" appear more often that "Sanitize" in your closing? The overuse of sanitizers and other antibacterials has led to the proliferation of resistant germs. Frequent washing with REGULAR soap is still our best defense. Sanitizers are great when proper handwashing facilities are not available, but should not be a substitute for proper hygiene. Not everyone who passes the sanitizer station is being remiss. If a person has just washed their hands, thay do not need to use sanitizer.
bklynangel Posted August 31, 2009 #89 Share Posted August 31, 2009 I'll bet they do the same things on RCI, NCL and even Celebrity. Why post this on the Carnival board. YEAH, NCL is worse. I saw some guy pick his pants and then put the thongs right into the salad on the salad bar. I also saw a lady taste food on her plate using her fingers and then licking them and picking some stuff up with the fingers she just licked. YUCK! Lots dont wash hands or use sanatizer. I always do. The thongs are probably more dirtier than using your fingers.

salty dingo Posted August 31, 2009 #92 Share Posted August 31, 2009 When there is a norovirus outbreak, passengers are not permitted to serve themselves at the buffet. Staff puts everything on your plate for you. I think that's a great idea, but I am sure it causes the crew a lot of extra work, because they normally do not have to staff that many people at the buffet. rigldbrg Posted August 31, 2009 #95 Share Posted August 31, 2009 I do NOT go into the nonchlorinated pool or hot tub (germ soup as I call them) And no I'm not OCD or anything, but I KNOW whats out there and I don't want it ;) Carole Are the pools and hot tubs on board nonchlorinated? If so, cross those off my list too.

JessicaRN Posted August 31, 2009 #97 Share Posted August 31, 2009 I wash (like really wash, with soap and all, not just a rinse) after toileting, then use the paper towels to dry, shut off the water, and close the door. That's as germ-obessed as I get. Otherwise I'm pushing elevator buttons, holding railings, and opening doors tissue-free with wild abandon. I never get sick. As in never. I had some cold once in college, about 6 years ago. Had 103.5 temp at night.. was fine the next morning (went to Target, actually, because there was going to be a snowstorm). Never had Chicken Pox, but have a strong positive titer (am tested for work) meaning I was exposed repeatedly but never contracted it. I have one kick ass immune system though. I figure if I come in contact with other people's germs, it will only make me stronger. I really understand that not everyone has an awesome immune system, or they may have a medical condition making it more likely to catch illness, but the germophobia out there is a bit crazy. Wiping down everything you see with lysol/wipes/hand sanitizer isn't going to keep you healthy, it's gonig to make your immune system weaker and not as able to react when you will inevitably encounter bacteria. ilionite65 Posted August 31, 2009 #99 Share Posted August 31, 2009 FYI...... Physicians are the worst for not washing their hands! Weather at the drs. office or in another health care setting, don't br afraid to ask your dr. to wash his/her hands. I't a shame but they frequently need reminding! Because of all of the germ spreaders, I wash my hands whenever I can. I had a mini-Purell hanging from my small backpack for our last cruise (8/14-8/22). Every time we sat down on a bus or left a store we all did the Purell wash.
